I sip my coffee.

I never expected to feel empathy like this for Simon.

It makes me want to hug him.

“Okay, I can’t dawdle. I need to get going.” Calla stands quickly and grabs her things.

“Me too. My first client should be here soon,” Willa says.

I give them both a quick hug and start my day.

Grey leads the way when we get to ninja warrior camp held at Wind Valley’s recreation center. It’s a special room set up with various obstacle courses, and as soon as he makes it into the classroom, I take a seat outside of it to watch through the viewing window.

Ninja warrior camp.

Ha.

I love that they’re coming up with more and more ideas to keep kids busy, but this is something I would have never imagined. But truth be told, if there had been a ninja warrior camp when I was a kid, I would have gone.

The kids line up on a bench inside the room as a man slowly paces in front of them. He’s obviously the teacher and is giving them some kind of instruction.

He’s tall—my guess is a little over six feet. He has dark hair that’s cut short and clean, and his face is clear of any facial hair. From the way his black slacks hang on his hips and his black T-shirt clings to his biceps, he’s clearly fit. Then he turns, and I see his dark eyes. One thought crosses my mind. He’s my type. A 100 percent my type.

Is it possible that on day one of no dating apps, I could actually meet someone organically? I try to sneak a peek at his left hand, but he keeps it hidden. What are the chances he’s single?

I sigh and look at my phone, checking my schedule for tomorrow. Grey’s coach is probably not the smartest idea anyway. I’d have to see him all summer if things didn’t work out.

Do I really have room to be picky?

A text from Calla comes up in the group chat I have with her, Willa, and one of our newest friends, Paige.

Calla

I was thinking about this morning, and I feel like we should have addressed your dating subject more.

Willa

I agree. I actually came up with an idea. Do you remember when Paige told us about her bucket list?

Greer

Yes.

Paige

Oh, I see it. Greer should make a list.

Willa

Yes! If all the guys you’ve been dating keep having the same result, maybe make a list of what you want in a partner. That way, you can stop wasting time with the ones who don’t meet the criteria.

It’s not a bad idea. I mean, I have a basic idea in my head, but they might be onto something. Maybe the kind of man I’m attracted to isn’t the type of man I should end up with. I’m still on the no-dating band wagon, but perhaps they didn’t work out because I haven’t been clear on what I want in a man.

Greer

It’s worth a try.
