“Did you want to?”
I shook my head. “Want to come with you inside me.”
Rex kissed the corner of my mouth and then sat up, reaching for the condoms.
He rolled one on and got it ready, then shimmied back a little to give himself room to manhandle me and arrange me how he wanted, which was on my back mostly, but with my leg brought up and pushed to the side. Rex straddled the leg that was still outstretched and his slick fingers teased my hole.
“Rex, please. Don’t—” My voice caught as he slipped the tip of a finger inside. “Don’t make me wait.” I gasped.
His hands were everywhere. On my leg, grounding me. On my ass, caressing me. Up my back, comforting me as he got closer and lined his cock up with my hole. He didn’t ask if I was sure or try to override what I’d asked for. Instead, he trusted me to know what I wanted.
The stretch burned at first in a not-unpleasant way. It was sharp enough to make me gasp at first, and then it dulled around the edges as Rex slowly inched forward. By the time he was all the way inside me, the burn had transformed to an ache.
He fucked me slowly. Dragging each forward and backward motion out to its limit. My body was on fire. Wound tight with agony knotted in my stomach as he continued to take it slow. Take me slow. Rex kissed me, slipped his tongue into my mouth, and stole the little whimpers that came. But he ignored that, and he ignored the way I reached for him and tried to get him to move faster.
“Rex…” My voice sounded hoarse to my own ears, and I squeezed my eyes shut, determined to keep any tears at bay. “Please, I need… I need…” I didn’t know what I needed, but Rex must have because when his hand wrapped around my cock, my soul left my body.
My whole body jerked like I’d been struck by lightning and within two strokes, I was shattering. Coming all over the bed and his hand. Not that he minded because that’s when Rex suddenly discovered depth and speed and really, really fucked me. He was all raw power and frenzied energy. He leaned forward, trappingmy leg between us, but he covered me with his body and used every last muscle to drive deep inside me.
My thoughts scattered, my mind blanking as Rex came. The only thought I was able to form was that this was what love felt like. It felt like warmth and comfort and connection. It felt hard and soft all at once. It felt like not wanting to be even two feet apart and knowing that this was as close as we could get and it would never be close enough.
Rex came apart on top of me, thrusting and bucking and fucking me hard and deep as he cried out, emptying his soul into the condom. When he was done, he all but collapsed on top of me, and I didn’t have it in me to mind.
Sweat-damp hair was matted to his forehead, and I lifted a hand and gently pushed it off his forehead.
“That was perfect,” I told him, wrapping my arms around him so he wouldn’t move.
He kissed my cheek. “It’s easy to make perfection with perfection.”
I scoffed, but Rex didn’t laugh.
“I’m not perfect.” I said, imploring him to believe me.
“You’re perfect for me.”
My heart swooned. “Well, it’s a good thing I already told you that I love you, or I’d have blurted it out now for sure.”
“You can tell me whenever you want,” Rex said, dusting a kiss against my cheek.
It took me a moment to gather the words and make them come out. They weren’t words that were in my everyday vocabulary, so using them felt strange but also right in a way that was hard to describe.
“I love you,” I said, my voice soft but unflinching.
“I love you too.” Rex rolled off me but didn’t go anywhere and simply tugged me into his arms.
I had so many questions about his brother and the guy who’d shown up to crash the wedding, but all of them could keep. Right now my priority was basking in the afterglow with Rex. The stress of the day had eased, and Rex looked relaxed and perfect with his messy hair, his almost smile, and the affection in his eyes that belonged to me.
TWENTY-NINE
REX
After the weddingthat wasn’t, I gave Nigel a few days of peace before reaching out and asking that he meet me for breakfast. After the thing between him and Trevor unraveled and the whole Simon’s been in love with him forever reveal, I’d been concerned about him. I wasn’t sure if he and Simon were okay. Or if he and I were okay for that matter.
I’d kept a pretty big secret from him for the stupidest reason possible. Trevor had meant nothing to me and, looking back, there had been no excuse to keep my short-lived past with him from my brother.
Nigel arrived at Bennett’s looking tired but in a good way. His shoulders were back and his head was held high, and the hint of a smile tugged at his mouth. He slid into the booth across from me and ordered a coffee.
“I must say that I’m glad to see you looking so chipper,” I told him, sipping my coffee. “I take it that things between you and Simon have sorted themselves out.”
