CHAPTER NINE
Genevieve
“Did I hear you correctly? Did you say ‘serial killers’?” my brother Hugo asks.
“Yes, you heard me right. We’ve been looking into their past and there are several things that are putting up red flags for us. First, they’ve worked at five different sheriff’s stations in the last eight years?—”
“Is that unusual?” my brother Marcel asks.
“Yes. Especially when you think about the things that happened before they left each station. There were at least three suspicious deaths at each of the stations. A couple of the counties they worked in are gathering their own information. We’ve talked to them and are waiting on more information,” Francesco adds.
“So is there a chance they’re not killers and just not good men?” my maman asks.
“Until we have solid proof? Yes. But the detectives I talked to believe it was them.”
“I can’t believe this has turned out this way. And I’m sorry you’ve had to go through this,” my maman says as my parents come over and hug me.
“I should’ve listened to you and Papa. But then I look at Michel and realize I had to go through this to find him.”
They both smile at me.
“That’s a good way to look at it,” my maman says as she smiles at Michel.
“So what do we do now?” my papa asks.
“Well, since no one wants to hide out in Lake Renegade, everyone will have bodyguards,” Enea says to them.
My papa nods. “We’ll be here for two weeks. We were going to try and get Genevieve to come back home with us. But now that we’ve met Michel, I don’t think she’s going to agree to that.”
“I’m sitting right here.” I laugh. “And no. I don’t want to leave.”
“Well, for now, the only thing we can do is wait. Some of us are planning on heading back to Lake Renegade soon. But we will have others come here to take our place. Until we know for sure whether Julian and Randall are either behind bars or innocent. We won’t leave Storyville without protection,” Giacomo says.
“Again, thank you.” My papa nods.
We spend the next few hours talking. My parents seem to be relaxing more as they talk and get to knowMichel’s family and the Lake Renegade family. Tonight’s gone a lot better than I thought it was going to.
We finally get up and head to our own rooms.
“I like your family,” Michel says as we’re getting ready for bed.
“They’re the best, I hate to think that they’ll only be here for two weeks.”
“Are you sure about staying? I mean, I could list all the reasons you need to stay here in Storyville. But I know how close you are with your family too.”
I walk over to him and hug him. I love that he understands how much I love my family. But I also know how much I want to stay here with him.
“You can’t get rid of me that easily.” I smile as I stand on my tiptoes to kiss him.
“I don’t ever want to get rid of you. You’re stuck with me for the rest of yourlife.”
Michel
I lean down and take her mouth with mine, her moans are driving me fucking crazy.
“I need you,” she whispers as I lift her up and walk over to the bed.
“Are you sure?”
