All of the doors into the various ante chambers are closed, and none of them open when I attempt to gain entry. It looks like the last option is the chamber itself.
As the grunts and growls get louder, echoing down the passage, I stand in front of the door. With a whoosh, it spirals open to allow me entry.
“Please close,” I beg as I turn to see the no longer Sarkarnii warriors thumping towards me. “Please.”
The first one, the one which started all of this, has his hand outstretched, reaching for me as the door closes with a metallic slicing sound.
And a hand twitches on the floor.
I back up, bile rising in my throat. I don’t even know why I took this stupid ray gun as I don’t have the lady balls to shoot it even when I’m about to be devoured or ripped to shreds by whatever the warriors have become.
There is the obligatory dip in the floor where the warlords like to lounge, and the entire place smells of something akin to cigar smoke, warm and somehow comforting.
A crash reverberates as the door is hit by something heavy, and I shudder violently. I can’t stand still. For all I know, they could be through the door in moments. I pull out my comm device and frantically type a help message to my friends, my hands shaking so hard I’m not sure I’m even able to spell correctly.

Things are trying to kill us too
Another huge crash has me backing into the furthest corner of the hall. I’m absolutely sure the warriors will be through any moment. I don’t think I have long.
Tell Deus I love him
“Little ember, you can tell me yourself.”
LYDIA
Deus’s scales shine under the low lights in the clan hall. He looks incredible, whereas I must be a sweaty mess. I’m sure he’s bigger than normal, even with the tail and wings.
“How…how did you get here?” I gasp out as the door takes another battering.
