I stood.

“You don’t think that’s something I’d want to?—”

I grabbed her face and gently pressed a kiss to her head.

“I’m fine. I’m telling you now.”

Like chocolate in a hot pot, she melted.

Figured that’d work after how it affected her last night.

“He turned because he claimed he’d be ruling Hell soon. And he admitted this as he formed ice in his hand.”

“How is that possible?” she asked, her gaze darting to Sam.

“My only guess is they figured out a way to tap into it through blood magic.”

“And that still begs the question of whotheyare.”

I shook my head.

“Lilith is dead. How many more blood-witches are there?”

Lucille

Iluscelered to the library, knowing I was late. Still, I paused outside the doors.

They showed the female in the dungeons. Unlike the timid way she had hidden in her shadows, whispering apologies, she gripped the cell bars with both hands and shoved her face between them. Her long black hair and dress dangled through the gaps as she pressed herself close, her mouth open on an angry scream.

Goosebumps prickled my skin, and something screamed in my head not to look away.

There was something to this mosaic.

There was something these images were telling me.

My body practically vibrated with the need to know.

I walked inside the library, and Cato stood at the entry with a dry expression that bordered on annoyance.

“You’re—”

“Late. I know.” I jumped straight into my studies. I needed to get this over with so I could write down my thoughts on the doors. “Inviso is a type of dream-walking that allows us to invade thebody of another and witness the past through them. Like Intraverso, you need to ground yourself, but not in the past—in the person.”

I’d read that last night, and it made me question the female who had ripped me from my dream-walk. She gave me a list about Miriam. She knew I’d need it for Intraverso, which again begged the question: who was she? And why did she want me to travel to Miriam’s past?

“And?” Cato prompted, clasping his hands together beneath his billowing sleeves.

“And I tried to dream-walk into Miriam’s body.”

His shrewd eyes twitched, and a subtle crease lined his brows.

“But it didn’t work,” I said slowly.
