“No. Apparently, they used to be a much bigger problem, and they still are a threat if you run into them, but the frequency with which we run into them now is not as often. The Abyss creatures are a much bigger threat,” Rast explains.

“They’re what you call the Others, right?” Reaper asks.

Rast nods, “Yes.”

“Could the compound leaders have something to do with that? You said that they were handing people over to them?” I ask.

He nods, “That’s one of my theories, yes.”

“Or they could all be dead. But there’s no way to know for certain, I suppose, since no one can get into the punishment side,” Rival says.

“Exactly,” Rast replies.

We carry on walking in silence.

I think all of us, not just Rast, have come to some pretty crazy conclusions while we’ve been walking.

Rast is walking ahead of us, since we’re following him and the compass that the arseholes gave us, and once again I see something flicker on the left of him.

The ground beneath me whispers, but not in warning this time. I’m not sure what it’s telling me, and the flicker's gone, so I decide to let it go, we’ve got enough going on.

Zev

I’m incredibly grateful that I got a vision and that it led us to realise some pretty big things, but I’m once again left questioning a lot. I know the others are too because they’re all silent.

I know that I needed to ask the questions about the dead. The vision told me that I needed to, and while it did bring up some interesting conversations, I’m not entirely sure what the purpose of it,is because I know that the conversations that it brought up were not the reason why I had to bring it up. The shift in the visions has me almost as worried as when I hadn’t had one for a while. Especially since I have no idea if it’s a permanent change or if it was just for that vision. I was shown a lot, and I instinctively know that I didn’t manage to actually see everything that I was supposed to, but that I will remember it when I’m supposed to remember it.

My gaze drifts to Farren, as it does every five minutes or so, to check that she’s okay.

She’s handling all of this surprisingly well. She even mentioned the ‘G’ word, which she explicitly warned us not to say, which means that while she isn’t quite ready to talk about it yet, she is at least dealing with it in her mind in her own way.

Admittedly, I did choose to leave some things out. The others don’t necessarily need to know everything, and some things I can’t tell them anyway. My magic always lets me know when I can share something and when I can’t, and there were a couple of things that I couldn’t share but that I want to keep an eye on.

If I can.

Before we came here, I was starting to be able to call on visions when I wanted to see something. It was actually a welcome change to be in control rather than to have the visions catch me off guard, but as I told the others, my visions have not been playing ball.

By that I mean that until a few moments ago I hadn’t had any.

I guess there’s one way to find out if the vision has brought back my ability to control them or if it was just a one-time thing. Focusing on my magic, while making sure that I’m still paying attention to where I’m walking, I ask my magic to give me a vision to clarify the part ofthe vision that is puzzling me most and is one of the parts that I can’t mention to anyone.

Which just makes me more curious.

I want to know why it felt like there was someone else with us.

The vision was long. It spanned quite far in the future and didn’t just include what is happening in this realm, and throughout the whole thing, I felt like I was missing someone. I kept going to say something to someone, or joke with someone, and whoever it was wasn’t there. I know it sounds strange. I’m actually relatively glad that this is something that I can’t share with the others. I don’t want them to think that I’m crazy.

The thing that I don’t understand is that I was so certain that they were there, that I was talking to someone that I knew, especially in the later parts of the vision, and I could see the others doing the same thing and talking or joking with someone who I couldn’t see.

All of that tells me that I’m not supposed to know who it is yet, which is strange in itself, but then again, I am surprised that I was shown so much of our future when I haven’t really been getting anything. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at the black spots, and there were more than one.

It’s just that one that bothered me the most. I’m usually quite happy to leave the black spots in my visions alone. I know that they will reveal themselves in time, and that I will understand them when I’m supposed to.

But this feels different somehow, and I can’t put my finger on why.

Almost like it’s really important, or there’s a time limit in place.

I am really unsure, and quite honestly, the time limit feeling could have absolutely nothing to do with the person who isn’t actually there. It could be because we’re running out of time to save the realm.
