Just like in her videos.

I shook my head, grinning while biting on the hard candy, and walked further into the living room. I noticed numerous framed pictures of taxidermy bugs woven between the overwhelming kawaii and gamer-style decor. It was such an interesting thing to see…dead insects pinned and displayed. “Huh.” I leaned closer to one of the larger framed specimens, admiring the vibrant blue color of the deceased butterfly’s wings.

It seems you have a unique interest in bugs, cottontail. How peculiar…As long as there's no spiders…

I shivered at the thought.

Stay focused, Felix.

Adjusting the balaclava, I proceeded to check the living room windows, making sure they were locked and secured. Like clockwork, I then stepped into the small kitchen, looking around and securing the tiny window in there before eventually making my way to the dark hallway which seemed to lead straight to Dream’s bedroom.

I still need to check the windows in her room.

The lingering bits of the hard candy dissolved along my tongue and the song in my ears ended, a new one now playing from her playlist. I gripped the bedroom doorknob, twisted, then pushed it open. The hinges let out a faint, whisperingsqueak. I stood there for a good minute, hesitant and waiting to see if she’d stir. Aside from the sound of the music in my ears, the bedroom was dead quiet. And curled up, just as she was in the live camera feed, was Dream, still fast asleep in her bed.

I exhaled with relief.

Now…to check the windows.

I stepped into her bedroom, carefully placing my feet along the floor as I made my way to the opposite side of the room. The wall was lined with large windows that looked out into another downtown alley. And with the apartment being on the first floor, anyone could easily find a way into her room through them.

Not on my watch.

I secured the windows, checking them numerous times before peeking my head into her bathroom. Luckily, there was only a small window that lit up the tiled room, sitting just above her cotton-candy-colored shower. Even still, I checked to make sure it, too, was locked before returning to her bedroom. Dream’s bed came out from the wall which separated the room from it, and standing in the bathroom doorway, I was directly across from her body. My head tilted as I gazed down at her, the moonlight from her windows painting her pale face in a mythical midnight glow. Such immense curiosity took control of me and Ifound myself stepping closer and closer, until there was virtually no distance between me and her.

My head tilted to the other side as I gently reached out and stroked her long hair, tucking it behind her ear.

Little cottontail.

My palm hovered above her ear, moving down her face and above her exposed arm. Long, pin-straight strands of her hair were wrapped around her body like tentacles, wrapping around her while she remained in what seemed to be a deep sleep. And as I followed those wild strands, I noticed her thigh was exposed, highlighted by the moonlight. An intrusive thought entered my mind as my jaw tightened, before an odd protectiveness took over.

I gently tugged at the large, knit blanket and raised it over her body, covering her, and in doing so, I was hit with a scent of what could only be described as some kind of sugary marshmallow or spun sugar. She smelled so good. I bent down, crouching next to her bed and lifted my mask just enough to take a nice, deep breath, inhaling her intoxicating smell.

Fuck me.

The sweet essence of her flooded my nostrils and made my heart nearly stop. The way it hit my lungs was almost identical to sucking on a piece of hard candy, the effects both pleasing and exhilarating. I leaned forward, wanting more as my hands gripped the sheets. I struggled to compose myself, the veins in my arms and hands all bulging as the overwhelming desire to ravage this little bunny had become nearly impossible to resist. The urge was so intense it almost drove me fucking insane. I had to quickly step away, she smelledthatfucking good.

Get your shit together, Felix!

I released her bedding and raised my arm before slapping my face, trying to knock some sense back into myself. The painacross my cheek shot me back to reality and I realized it was becoming dangerous for me to stay here with her.

You’ve been here long enough.

Rising to my feet, I moved back from the side of her bed before stopping in front of the gaming monitor, remembering the camera I’d hacked previously. I reached out and adjusted it faintly, checking the live feed on my phone to ensure the angle was just right. Then, I took one last look at Dream before forcing myself to leave her bedroom, quietly closing the door behind me and lowering my mask.

Sleep well, cottontail.

I made my way down the dark hall and stepped back into the neon-lit living room, taking one last look around. As my eyes scanned the cluttered walls, I noticed what appeared to be a small fish tank sitting on a floating shelf in the living room.

Hmm. I don’t remember seeing that when I walked by earlier.

I inched closer, leaning down until I was eye level enough to look into the dark tank. Oddly enough, there was no water or fish, but instead a thick layer of what looked like dirt. There were large amounts of little plants, misted and filling the small enclosure, intertwined with what appeared to be thick webbing.

What the?—

A large, vibrantly-colored magenta spider suddenly appeared from within the enclosure, peeking out from the curved cork bark. I stumbled back, staggering into the nearby coffee table, knocking the headphones from my ears as I nearly fell over in a panic.

“She won’t bite you.”
