I continued to trace the tattoo. “Did you kill people?” He hesitated and then nodded. “Is that where the scar on your forehead came from?”

“How did?—”

My head rose. “I noticed it yesterday.”

He blinked, as if I was the first person to ever ask. “It’s partially why I was kicked out…A year or so prior to that, there was an accident overseas…I was left with a few broken bones and a traumatic brain injury. I tried to live life as normally as I could, but things were never the same after that day.” Felix paused, interlocking his fingers with mine. “It’s like you mentioned earlier…how do you keep living knowing it's all a lie? Knowing it’s never going to get better.”

I shot from his arms and sat up, giving him a pouty face. “What.” He laughed.

“For someone who smells like sunshine, you sure are a dark little storm cloud.” Felix laughed at me again. “Let’s be each other’s better.”

“I like the sound of that.” Felix then pulled me towards him, kissing me with such desire. We spent some time kissing and touching, relishing in that little moment before my alarm finally went off.

“No,” I groaned as I dipped my head back.

Felix kissed my neck, ticking me lightly. “Time for work.” He slapped my ass, still sore from the night before.

I playfully shoved him, stepping from the couch. “Youwouldknow what that alarm was for.” As I walked to my bedroom and shut the alarm off, I couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear. “I’m so happy,” I whispered to myself. I then reached into my nightstand and pulled something out before skipping to the living room. Felix was now standing, his jeans back on, latching his belt. His eyes sparkled when they saw me. “I guess it’s time for you to head out to work, too?” He nodded. “Well, in that case, these are for you.” I extended my arm, offering him a small bag of hard candy.

“How did you?—”

“I found one of the wrappers outside my door a few days ago. Figured you must’ve dropped it while stalking me.” I winked. “Strange, though, you’ve always been so careful about cleaning up after yourself.”

Felix shook his head and smiled, yanking me into him. His hair tickled my face as he leaned in, his mouth hovering over mine. “I’m really fucking glad I chose to stalk you.”

I smiled back. “Me too.” I kissed him, never wanting to let go.

“Mmm. You know, I’m going to need my shirt back.”

I giggled, wrapping my arms around his neck. “Go on then…take it.”

Felix grinned and picked me up in one swift motion. “Lucky for you, I’ve got time to spare.” He carried me toward the bedroom as I kissed him. He kicked the door shut and threw me down onto the bed. “Now, show me that face I love.”

CHAPTER FOUR

FELIX

“Sorry,”I groaned, picking up a hefty set of pliers. “But that answer’s not good enough for me.” The man before me, strapped to an old metal chair, was one I’d spent half the day interrogating in the hopes of learning more of Kief's plan. Or at least what he was going to do next. If not for me and my siblings’ sake, then for Dream’s.

I clamped the jaws on his front tooth, squeezing the handle tight as the blade cracked the bone. The man screamed as I took my time plucking it from his bloodied mouth. He cried, spitting drool and blood all over my gear.

“Now that's just rude.” I used my glove to wipe the stains from the protective vest I wore. I was breaking a sweat, my forehead soaking beneath my mask and gear.

Why can’t this fucker just tell me what I need to know? I have better things to do than waste my whole day torturing him.

I reached into my pocket and pulled out a piece of the hard candy Dream had given me, popping it under my mask and into my mouth. The sugary strawberry flavor instantly calmed my temper, reminding me of my night with her.

Not now…fuck…focus, Felix.

I cracked my neck, tossing the pliers aside. The man cried, begging me to let him go. I turned to look at him, amused by how pathetic he was behaving. “Let you go?” I scoffed, picking up one of the handguns laid out on a nearby table. “There seems to be some kind of misunderstanding.” I raised the gun and aimed it directly at his skull with a wide smile. “Look into my eyes, and tell me who I am.”

The man sobbed hysterically. “Please!” he howled. “Please—I don’t know where he is! I don’t know! I swear!”

“That’s not what I asked.” I pressed the tip of the barrel against his forehead. “I said…tell me who I am.”

The man wailed, eventually breaking as he finally answered me in defeat. “The green-eyed devil.”

I scoffed. “That’s right. And no one leaves my devil’s den alive.” The man trembled with absolute fear, his reddened eyes wide as I pulled the trigger. The bullet shot directly through his brain, tunneling out the back of his skull and embedding in the dirty tile floor. Blood, brain matter, and small bone fragments had sprayed through the hole in the back of his head, leaving his battered body lifeless.
