The walls I had erected around my heart crumbled at the request. I couldn’t resist my feelings anymore. I wanted this. I needed this. My mind, body, and soul needed him like my lungs needed air. He was essential to my being, and I was so tired of depriving myself of what I truly needed. So I let him in.

My eyes narrowed in on his, and a devious smirk spread across my swollen lips. I leaned into his fingers and looked deep into his bright azure eyes. “More, Forrest,” I whimpered.

He thrust his two fingers in, and my back arched in response.

We rested our foreheads together as we continued to get each other off.

A pooling heat was collecting at my core, and I knew it wouldn’t be long before I reached my climax. “Forrest. I need you. Now,” I ordered breathlessly.

Without a second’s hesitation, Sterling pulled me off the counter, turned me around, and bent me over it. I looked back at him in the mirror and watched as he grabbed my hips and forced his impressive length into me. “Forrest!” I cried as he enthusiastically thrust in and out of me. “I’m going to come soon.” The statement came out almost like an apology, as a wish that we could hold on to this moment for longer than we were allowed.

My core tightened, and my impending release was moments away. Sterling’s thrusts became more urgent and fast-paced in response. Our eyes locked in the mirror as Sterling fucked me into oblivion on the powder room counter.

I bit my fist and screamed around it as my climax came rushing over me like a thunderous wave. Sterling bent over and moaned into my neck as he pulsed inside me, his release finding him just as quickly.

Sterling slowly pulled out of me and looked at me in the mirror. His once beautiful smile was now a terse line as his brows bunched together. “There’s something I should probably tell you.”

My heart sank as I turned around to face him. Of course this couldn’t be simple. It had to be complicated.

He handed me a cloth and began cleaning himself off. “You need to know—”

Bang, bang, bang!

I jumped at the harsh interruption. My heart suddenly lodged in my throat. Sterling’s face returned to its usual mask of indifference as he gently placed his hand on my arm, ready to put himself between me and whoever stood on the other side of the door.

“I told you, Prince Sterling, you had until the end of the next song, and then I was coming to find you!” Thea threatened from the other side of the door.

My face flushed as I exhaled a huge sigh of relief. I smiled at Sterling.Sorry, I mouthed.

His face contorted into a pained expression. “If something happens—”

“Did you hear me, Prince Sterling?” Thea yelled, banging relentlessly on the door.

“Yes, Lady Thea. I did.” His voice was unable to hide his annoyance at the interruption.

“I’m fine, Thea. Be right out,” I replied, hoping to ease my friend’s concern and stop her from barging in here. I looked up at Sterling. “What were you trying to say?”

He looked down at his hands and let out a deep sigh. “Just… stay close by. All right?”

My brows furrowed as I mulled over what he had just said. “Yeah. Sure.”

Sterling waited while I quickly finished cleaning up. I looked in the mirror and gasped as I took in the sight of me. My lipstick was smeared all over my mouth, and it was obvious by my reddened cheeks and chest what had just occurred in this room. I reached for another cloth and cleaned up the edges of my lipstick as best I could.

Sterling gently took the cloth from me and smiled ruefully. “Let me.” He attempted to wash away the mess of lipstick from my face. “There. That’s better.” He leaned in and placed a small peck on my sore lips.

Not wanting to irritate Thea any more than I already had, I reached down and squeezed his hand in thanks, then headed to the door.

Sterling quickly made his way in front of me and slowly opened the door. On the other side was Thea. Her arms were crossed, andthe determined look on her face said she had been seconds away from breaking the door down. Her eyes went straight to me, like she was assessing me to see if any further damage had been done. Once she deemed everything to be in order, she fought off an unimpressed smirk as she looked between Sterling and me.

Sterling’s face reddened, and his body stiffened. He pulled on his jacket, trying to straighten it out. “I have to go. Please enjoy the festivities,” he offered brusquely before he made his way back to the ballroom.

Thea and I stared at one another. She uncrossed her arms and smiled. “Aurelia. It’s generally advised to wait until after the formalities before engaging in the debauchery. But since you are new here, we’ll let it slide.”

My face was hot, and I fussed with the neck of my dress.

Thea chuckled at my unease. “Darling, it’s fine. No need to be embarrassed. As long as you enjoyed yourself, that’s all that matters.”

Thea stared at me expectantly, and I realized she was waiting for an answer. “Oh. Yeah. No, I enjoyed myself.” My face flushed even more at the admission. “Can we please go back to the ballroom? I need another drink.”
