“It’s like being at work, huh?” Anson asked.
“Depends on which job,” Cole muttered. “If you’re referring to my doctor work, yes. If you’re referring to my enforcer gig… well, sometimes.”
“It’s weird. You’re on both sides of the same coin. The good guy, who saves people, and the bad guy, who kills them. Does that get tiring to live a double life?” Anson asked.
“Ani,” I murmured.
“Yes,” Cole replied. “It does. It’s why I’m considering leaving one life for the other.”
Anson huffed and took the seat next to me.
We were quiet again. The doctor entered the room, thankfully.
“Hello. You must be Rosalie,” she said, smiling at me. “I’m Doctor Sims.”
“Hi,” I greeted her.
“Looks like we need a set of vitals.” She immediately set to work and got all my vitals before taking in my information for my last period.
She quickly drew my blood to do a more accurate test and handed me a gown to put on before vowing to return shortly.
“How’d she do, doc?” Anson called out as I quickly put the gown on.
“Fine,” Cole muttered.
I smiled as I got back onto the table. It was crazy to think Cole was a doctor.
“Doctor Scott,” I murmured, staring at Cole.
He looked at me, his expression softening, and the harsh lines of irritation slipping away.
“I’m proud of you,” I continued softly.
“Yeah?” He smiled. “I’m proud of you, too.”
“Maybe we can play doctor the next time I get to see you.”
“Absolutely.” He looked up my bare legs, his eyes lingering on my chest before he locked eyes with me. “I’ll bring my stethoscope.”
“Enough,” Anson said, his voice low. “You never know if people bug this shit.”
Cole rolled his eyes. “Who gives a shit? So what if the world knows she’s mine too?”
“The world is likely not ready for that sort of relationship,” Anson said.
Cole scoffed. “Rosebud is a trendsetter. All she has to do is say she digs it, and people will be running to the altar with half a dozen partners. I guarantee it. In fact, she and Enzo should work together on making it a reality.”
“Curious as to why De Luca has such an interest in making it legal,” Anson mused.
“So he doesn’t have to skirt his woman off to some fucking snake and giant bug-infested island somewhere to prove he means forever. He can do it from somewhere nice, like The Plaza.”
Anson chuckled at that. “Is he entertaining the idea of a new harem?”
Cole glanced at me. “No.”
“Then I beg the question?—”
“Ani. Enough,” I murmured. “Please.”
