Skye clenched her jaw.West had a drop of witch’s blood. He might not know what he was sensing, but Skye had no doubt that he was reading her demonic energy. He might not be aware of his magic, but if she continued to deny everything, it’d only make him more suspicious.

Skye sucked on her front teeth and stared straight ahead. She nodded.“Yeah, okay.I’ll figure something out.”

She didn’t look at West as he left the room.

Everything was so delicate now, but she couldn’t afford to get kicked off the tour just yet.

She should use her demon magic to compel the tabloids to get rid of that stupid photo, except she couldn’t be sure if the demon magic that she was funneling into Remi’s soul was part of what kept the bargain from deteriorating, and she didn’t want to use it up on something that, with any luck, would blow over.

Luckily, Laurie’s lead had panned out while the band was on break in Milwaukee, and she’d made the soul bargain and stole the devil magic from it.She just needed to get Remi alone to solidify his bargain one more time.

But he was so far from being amenable she didn’t know how she’d get him to say he wanted their bargain to work.

He had to think he was winning the war between them. That had always been what pissed him off the most—not the tour falling apart, but thinking Skye was manipulating him.

She’d just have to let him think he was in control.

The paparazzi swarmed the tour bus as it pulled into the gates of the venue at the next show.Photographers with cameras in hand hurled accusations and damning questions at them through the windows.

“Is Remi going to rehab?”

“Who will replace him if he overdoses?”

“Is the band breaking up due to his drug habits?”

Skye sighed.“You still think this is good for his street cred?”

“No such thing as bad publicity,” Jillian quipped.

Ollie chewed on his fingernail as he took in the commotion, and even Liam’s eyes had gone wide with worry.

Remi had spent the entire day sleeping in one of the bunks. He stumbled out, his hair a mess, and peered out the windows.

“Huh,” he said.“I really am famous now.”

Skye bit her tongue from snapping at him, but West did it for her.

“That’swhat you have to say right now?”he demanded.

West might not trust her, but he wasn’t happy with Remi either.

Remi shrugged.“I told you I didn’t do it.The photo is out there. It’s not like I can do anything to stop it.What do you want from me?”

“We want you to care!”Liam said, throwing his arms up.

Remi narrowed his eyes.“Have I ever missed a show?”

No one answered him.

“Have I ever missed a show?”Remi said, his voice hoarse with anger and the remnants of sleep.

“No,” Ollie said in a small voice.

“Have I ever fucked up the words to our songs or missed a goddamn cue?Have I ever not shown up to sound check or for our call time?”

“No,” Liam said.

“Okay!”Remi said.“So obviously I do fucking care.”
