He continued to list the parts of he’d have, kissing the ones within reach, as he strode to her bed. Then he dropped her on her mattress and covered her with his body before she had a chance to bounce a second time.

“Please, God, say you’re ready. I promise to draw it out until you’re begging for mercy next time but I need you now,” he panted. Bree wasn’t helping his oxygen deprivation as she refused to stop kissing him while they fought over who was going to unfasten his belt buckle.

She was ready. Hot make-up sex wasn’t supposed to be long and drawn out. It was supposed to be fast, and furious, and, “Oh my God, right there!”

Her head fell back onto the pillows. Bree lost herself in the intense sensations Eric’s fingers elicited and let her body ride out the quivering without a fight. “Holy crap, Eric.” It was her greatest compliment that she couldn’t say more than that.

“My turn.”

He’d managed to palm a condom when he dropped his jeans. She giggled when he slapped her hands away when she tried to help him put it on. “Stop, Bree, just let me…” He thrust quickly and groaned. “So damned sweet.” He slowed down. “Gotta make this last.

The intensity in her was building again. She nipped at his ear. “No, you don’t. Now, Eric.”

He was an officer and a gentleman, and he didn‘t keep his lady waiting. Bree braced her hand on the headboard and encouraged him to take more, until they both cried out in relief.

When she’d recovered her breath, she rolled him over until she was on top, then smiled down at him. “We’ve got to do that again.”

“Without the fighting,” he specified.

“Okay.” She’d rather spend the energy on the sex than the fighting. Winning an round of verbal sparring was nothing compared to winning a round in bed, and she had won. Twice.

They had just gotten dress and were refueling on the couch when Eric took his turn at bringing up a potential sore topic in their afterglow.

“What are you doing tomorrow afternoon?” he asked.

“You?” she said hopefully.

“I can guarantee that, but I was referring to your dad’s birthday barbecue.”

“Oh. I think I’m having a bikini wax. Or a root canal,” Bree said. Anything besides having to deal with her parents.

“Is it that bad?” Eric asked.

She appreciated that he didn’t immediately go to “it can’t be that bad”. It was. When Eric had pushed her away the year before, he father had all but ordered her to do whatever she had to in order to get him back. Her dad was all about the brotherhood, and a woman’s place in it was to support her man, no matter what. When she’d finally given up on resuscitating her and Eric’s relationship, her father had said that their father-daughter one wasn’t worth the effort either.

“Yes, it’s that bad,” she said.

“Will you try? One more time for Adam?” Eric squeezed her hand like he was trying to send her strength. “If your father’s a dick, we’ll leave, but I know Adam wants you there for the old man’s sixty-fifth.”

She missed her parents. Maybe an olive branch would be a good birthday present. It might not be too bad with Eric at her back. “One more time only,” she agreed.
