“And nobody thought to explain that to her instead of making it look like you were shutting her out for other reasons?” For fuck’s sake. They were smart men but that didn’t stop them from being idiots.

“We didn’t…” Adam protested.

“Shit.” Dutch got it first. “I just finished apologizing for the last time I showed my ass. Do you have her number?”

“Yes, but you aren’t going to call her now. She’s pissed off and driving. Tomorrow,” Eric said.

If she’d take the call.

He wouldn’t blame her if she didn’t.

With nothing else useful to add, the guys stuck around long enough to quickly finish their food and clean up, which consisted of tossing things into a garbage bag or his kitchen sink. As soon as they were gone and his house was secured, Eric headed straight for Bree. It was too late in the evening for her to have sought solace with Allison, so he was betting she was at her place.

She had to be. He had to explain. Apologize on behalf of his dumbass colleagues. Fuck, it seemed it was always one step forward, two steps back with Bree. If he ever found himself on solid ground with her for an entire day, he wouldn’t know what to do with himself. Except maybe fall on his knees and give thanks.
