Chapter :: Chapter Twenty Three

Knox

“Knox, it was good seeing you again, man.Amy, lovely to meet you.”

“My pleasure,” Amy replied, and Alfonso smiled.

He was a business partner, and I wanted to stay in touch.I always greeted him at events.Amy was fucking killing it, and I loved having her by my side tonight.

“I like you, Amy.”Then he pointed at me.“Keep her.”

“That’s the plan,” I informed him.

After he left, I turned to Amy.We’d stayed longer than I anticipated, but now I wanted nothing more than to get us home.“All right.I think the party’s about to wrap up.Want another drink or snacks before we leave?”

“Oh, no,” she said with a saucy smile.“Besides, I’ll have a delicious snack at home—you.”

“You’re very feisty tonight.”

“I am.I...”She leaned closer.“I kind of thought I might feel out of my element.”

I put a hand on her shoulder, the other one on her waist.Everyone who was still here had crowded into the bar room. There were just a few others mingling about, and they probably didn’t care if I was being too familiar with her.She was mine, after all.

“You’re fucking perfect.”

She giggled.“I’m a badass too.”

I brought her closer.“Meaning?”

“Cynthia came by before you brought the first round of drinks.”

I frowned.“Really?”

“Yes.She came to warn me.”

“About what?”I asked.

“You.That you don’t settle down, that I’m not good enough for you.”

My eyebrows shot up.“What the actual fuck?I’ll talk to her.”

“Don’t worry, I already did.”She licked her lips and shrugged.“She was just jealous.”

“That’s not like Cynthia,” I said.

“Knox!”She swatted my arm.“You can be so oblivious for someone who’s got so much experience with women.Trust me, she wasn’t happy that you’re with me.”

“I’ll talk—”

“No, really, don’t.I was just bragging that I basically scared her off, and it felt good.”
