“I like him even more now,” Miranda whispered.
“Do you think he has a brother?”Gigi asked.
Miranda snorted.“Yes, and he wants Livie, too.”
Jason wiped the blood from his nose, but to his credit hedidn’t seem inclined to continue the fight.“Damn, you’re one of thoseperverts.”
“I’m the pervert who isn’t trying to get a woman to make mylife easy.I want to do that for her.Say what you want about me, but I hearyou’re talking bad about Olivia or my partner and I’ll consider it adeclaration of war.”
He turned to Gigi and Miranda.“And Keane is not my brother. He is my partner.Brother is a blood relation.I chose Keane. He chose me.Whatever happens between us is natural, and I won’t let anyone make me feel badabout it.”
Gigi groaned.“That is so weirdly sexy.I will admit tofeeling totally left out.I only have one dad and everyone else has two, andsome of them even play together.”
“I called it, you pervert,” Jason snarled behind him.
Garrett didn’t turn, merely flipped the asshole off andgestured for Olivia’s friends to follow him. They were obviously subs, and hedidn’t think letting them free range would go well tonight. As it alreadyhadn’t.
It was time to put all the subs somewhere safe.
And deal with his own.
Chapter Eight
Olivia had a decision to make and she needed to makeit before she got home.Which would be soon.Every mile brought them closer andcloser to that moment when she had to choose.
Keane was driving Gigi’s SUV with the precision of a man whoknew if he didn’t concentrate on the road, things would go poorly.
Garrett sat next to him in the passenger seat. Not that hewanted to.He offered it to her, but she climbed into the third row so shecould talk to her friends.
She wished she had more tequila. She wasn’t drunk enough tomake these mistakes properly.
Or was it a mistake? She might need to consider it astrategic move. With Scott and now Jason back sniffing around, it made evenmore sense to hide behind two guys who had liked her without knowing how bigher bank account was.
They probably would never call her poor rich girl or makefun of her family.Or curse her family.
She leaned in, trying to keep her voice low.“What did hesay to Jason?”
She was sure Garrett had stayed behind to lecture the man onlawsuits and how he could file one if Jason didn’t leave her alone. She washappy Keane had come with her because she worried the sheriff wasn’t afraid ofKeane’s dad and might haul him in if he clocked the fucker.Garrett wouldn’t.She already knew him well enough to know he would threaten people in adifferent way.
Gigi turned in her seat, eyes gleaming with mirth.“He wasso badass. He did that thing that confident people do when they want tothreaten someone.”
“He did.”Miranda joined in.“He was all ‘you touch my womanand I’ll kill your whole family.’”
“I did not say I would kill anyone,” Garrett interrupted.
She didn’t need him involved in this conversation. It wasn’tlike he could go anywhere, but she happened to know he was good atrole-playing.It was time for him to role-play invisible man.“I need to talkto my friends. You are not here.”
Garrett turned back, grumbling, “Fine, but I didn’t threatento kill anyone.I would never do that. The threatening. Not the killing.Icould totally kill someone, but I wouldn’t be stupid enough to warn them.Ruin.Make them wish they were dead. That’s what I threatened. But not kill themmyself. It’s important to get the facts straight.”
“He’s right. There was no mention of killing, but he did theother stuff, and then Jason was nasty and I’m pretty sure he broke his nose,”Gigi said.“It was masculine and neat.He popped him clean.”
She was surprised. She’d thought Keane would be the one toget physical.“Garrett hit him? What did Jason say?”
“Nothing,” Garrett insisted.
Keane turned his head slightly, his masculine jawlinedrawing her eye in the shadows.“Hey, she needs to talk to her friends. We’renot here.”
“But we are,” Garrett insisted.
