Keith lowered his head and shook it before he looked up at Dom.

“A body was left outside of the clinic this morning in Nowhere,” Keith said, glancing at me.“Dr.Foster called and reported it a few minutes ago.”

I gasped as I covered my mouth with my hands, tears filling my eyes because I could already tell this was going to be bad.

“She sent me a picture,” Keith said, swallowing hard as he locked eyes with Dom.“I was able to confirm that it was Lauren.”

Thirty-Seven

Dom

My jaw hurt from howhard I clenched it as I stared at the photo on Keith’s screen.

There was no doubt that it was Lauren’s lifeless body in the picture.Even with the bloody face and bruises that made her almost unidentifiable, I knew my sister.

Keith and Jo talked for a few minutes, but I tuned them out as I sat at the small table in our room and rocked back and forth with my hands fisted in front of me.

No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get over the realization that I had been too late in saving her.She had reached out to me for help, but I hadn’t been quick enough.

A few minutes later, I heard the door close and then felt Jo’s hand as she rested it on my shoulder.I couldn’t allow myself to look up at her because I knew that if I did, I would fall apart.

She would see the weakness overtaking me, because I felt like the world’s biggest failure for not saving my sister.I clenched my fists tighter, trying to force the emotions away before she could see them.

“Dom,” she said, speaking my name so softly that I barely heard it.

I shook my head, pressing my lips together so hard that I hoped the pain would keep the tears from falling. My body trembled as she wrapped her arms around me and hugged me, forcing the wells to break as a loud sob escaped me.

“It’s not your fault,” she whispered, continuing to hold me as I fell apart in her arms.“Tray is a piece of shit and deserves everything that is coming to him.”

I leaned back slightly and looked up at her, finding comfort in her words because she was right.

He would deserve everything that was coming to him.I would make sure the asshole paid for everything he did to Jo and for everything that happened to Lauren.

*******

Hours passed as Joand I hung out in the room, watching movies while cuddled up in bed.I couldn’t tell you what any of them were about because my mind was fixated on Tray and making him pay for what he did.The need to get revenge on him was so overwhelming that it felt like I was drowning in it.
