“Wait a second! So you’re saying you could have paid for this whole trip without a problem? That we could have taken a private jet over here instead of that long ass flight? What the heck, Mackenzie!?” Silas stares at her with his jaw practically scraping his plate.
“I offered! But you men and your egos wouldn’t let me pay!” she states. “Now you boys can all sit there feeling stupid for refusing my offer.” She goes back to eating her chicken salad with a satisfied smile on her face. "Now for the private jet, I have no idea why none of you thought of that to begin with."
It’s silent for a few seconds until Gabe loses it and slaps his free hand on the table, bellowing with laughter. “Ford! You found yourself a sugar mommy!” He laughs some more, holding his stomach. “Now how does it feel knowing just how loaded she really is?”
“I have money too, you know?” Greyson glares at Gabe, who can’t help himself.
Noah snickers. “Yeah. But compared to her, you’re basically broke.”
Greyson’s glare turns to Noah, then to me. “Ronnie, you can do better,” he declares.
I gape at him. “Me? What did I do? Why am I being brought into this ludicrous conversation?”
“I’m just saying. You can do better than these two dummies.” He furrows his brows. “Are we allowed to say idiot in front of the kids?” He turns to Emma.
She looks up from her plate with a frown. “I mean, it’s not a nice thing to say, but it’s not a bad word. So, I guess, yes?” She shrugs with uncertainty.
“Wow… he even has to ask for permission to talk… she really is his sugar mommy,” Gabe whispers loud enough for everyone to hear, earning him a few chuckles around the table.
“Shut up, Ellis!” Greyson shouts at him.
“Nowthat, you can’t say,” Emma scolds him.
“Wait. So, he can sayidiot, but he can’t sayshut up?” Clay frowns. “I’m confused. That makes no sense.”
“Well, I don’t want my daughter saying shut up to a stranger,” Emma informs him.
“But calling someone an idiot is okay?” Silas asks with amusement.
“Oh…” Em’s eyes widen. “You have a point.” She nods. “Okay, no more saying idiot or shut up from now on!” she states to the table.
“Shu up.”
We all gasp and turn to Dante, who’s looking at us with a pleased smile, right before repeating in his tiny toddler voice, “Shu up.”
“OH MY GOD! EMMA!!” Cecilia yells.
“Hey! I’m not the only one who said it!”
“Yeah, but you did kind of repeat it often.” I giggle.
“You, be quiet.” Em points a finger at me.
“Shu up, shu up, shu up!” Dante giggles as he repeats the words over and over.
“No, no, baby. We don’t say that. It’s a bad, bad word.” Cecilia tries to quiet her son, but that seems to only make him find it even funnier.
“Shu up!”
“Oh God! Honey! Do something!” She turns to Silas with a panicked expression. “Why does he have to be a fast learner! Next thing we know, he’s going to be obsessed with that word and hockey!”
“Ockey!” Dante exclaims with his tiny fists in the air. He looks just like his father, it’s actually really cute.
“Oh, thank the lord. We’re back on track.” Cece places a hand over her heart and sighs in relief. She then points an angry finger at every single one of us. “No more saying any word we wouldn’t want our kids repeating to someone. Understood?!”
We all nod and chuckle.God, I love these people.
“So, what’s the plan for today?” Sam asks once everyone has settled down.Jesus, he’s so quiet in his seat I forgot he was there for a moment.
