Stroking her through the last throes, he moved his hips, holding himself in so he could at least take her to the end before he came inside her.

She was still breathing heavily as she whispered in his ear. “Don’t hold back.”

He laughed only a breath. “I don’t want this to end.”

“I’ll take it as a challenge,” she laughed. Digging her nails in farther, she arched her back off the bed, slightly raising her hips to let him in as deep as he could go. “Fuck me harder.”

He still laughed, holding in a growl as he did as instructed, until he was going so hard, so fast, that he thought his whole body would explode along with him. He gripped her hand and held it over her head, interlocking their fingers.

Still thrusting, pinning her below him, he pressed his brow to hers, now watching her eyes closely. But the challenge had diminished from them, she was looking at him the way he always hoped she would. The way he’d missed so badly for five years. The look he feared he would never be lucky enough to ever see again.

And as if knowing what it would do, she kept her eyes on him as she said, “I love you.”

That was all it took. He was over that edge, that incredible edge so quickly, groaning through his smiles as he finished coming.

Afterward, they held each other. Even daring to sleep in each other’s arms as the night pressed on.

Later, after she’d barely awoken, her eyes still weary from sleep, Adam said, “Four days, baby.”

The mattress buckled as she rolled to face him, his hand drawing lazy strokes up her bare thigh. “I know,” she said. “Are we ready for this?”

“Dan says he’ll have the will through tomorrow afternoon.”

“And then we’ve got four days?”

“Four days to kill Dorian Blake.”

“Fuck,” she said. “That came around quick.” She rolled onto her back to stare at the ceiling as he moved his hand from her thigh to her belly.

“Are you ready?” he asked.

“Of course,” she said, nodding too hard to be truthful, and gulping slightly.

He brushed the hairs out of her eyes and then gently stroked her face. “You don’t have to lie to me.”

She nodded nervously again. “Yeah, of course, I’m ready,” she said. “It’s just nerve-wracking, you know? Last time we tried this you died, so let’s not let that happen again.”

“Hey,” he said, pulling her chin toward him. “We’ll make it this time.”

“Yeah.” She kissed him softly. “I think we will.” She went in for another kiss but stopped herself, scrunching her brow. “Are you not nervous?”

He pulled away to look down to his chest. “Fucking nervous,” he said. “But I just have to remember why we need to do this, and what we’re capable of.”

He turned his head to smile at her and she returned it with a dreamy one of her own. Like they both knew this was the part where their dreams came true.

“What time is it?” she asked.

“Almost one AM.”

“I don’t need to be back until two,” she said, a bit deviously.

He smirked at her suggestion. “Good.”

Her rumbling laugh was more beautiful than a thousand symphonies as he pounced onto her again, pushing her legs apart and taking her in, not sure he could ever stop.

“This better be good, T.B.,” Dorian said, fanning himself with his shirt.
