I nod. I know a statement has to be given, and I’ve hidden here for long enough.

Haze folds his arms over his chest. It’s not very often I see him as serious as this, so that has me even more worried. “We’ll meet you there.”

“Don’t need a damn babysitter.”

“Yeah? If this was Cini Media and their henchmen, they could very well be watchin’ this clubhouse, and any one of us. Better to be safe than sorry.”

I rest a hand on Logan’s forearm and Haze’s eyes shift down. Logan’s eyes are still on me. “Do you think they could really be watching us?”

“It’s unlikely,” he says, shooting Haze an annoyed look, his eyes narrowing. “They caused as much destruction as they possibly could to send a message. The cops and the media are all over it.”

Speaking of which, I need to see the news. “Can we go?” I ask.

Logan moves off the stool, taking Dozer off me as he yawns, stretching his three legs out all at once. He’s such a cute little thing. “Gonna go find Luna. You sit tight and we’ll take the truck.”

I can’t exactly argue with him.

When he’s gone, Haze is still standing there.

Our eyes meet.

“You okay?” Haze asks, concern in his eyes.

“I’m as good as I can be,” I say, hugging myself. “It was, uh, a lot. I’ve never seen anyone like that before.” I can’t even say the words.

“If you need to talk, the girls are here. They’ve been through similar situations over the years. Maybe not directly like this, but traumatic stuff?—”

“I will,” I say quickly, wanting to get rid of him. I know he’s trying to be nice, but this is difficult. “It’s a lot to process, but I’ll be okay.”

The same can’t be said for Deidre and Jeremy, and goodness knows who else who weren’t so lucky.

He squeezes my shoulder. “Logan’s a good guy.”

“I know.”

“He won’t let anythin’ happen.”

I’ve never been a person who thought to carry a gun, but now it has me seriously considering it. I put that away for another day.

“He got to me so fast,” I say. “Like, five minutes.”

“He broke a couple of traffic codes to get there, but I gotta tell you, I think my brother’s got a thing for you.”

Okay, so Haze knows something. I’m not surprised. I’m sure they have locker room talk or whatever. I just don’t know how much he knows.

“He’s just being a decent guy, like you said.” I look away, unable to deny that I am starting to have feelings for Logan. I don’t want Haze catching onto that.

He chuckles. “Right. You keep tellin’ yourself that.”

Okay, epic fail.

He takes off and I sigh in defeat. The last thing I need right now is Haze all up in my business, but with these Dawson boys, they kinda sneak up on you. A lot like Logan. He’s somehow crept past my guards and defenses and now he’s right there, staring down the barrel of my heart.

But I don’t want that. I don’t want to have my heart broken all over again—that’ll ruin me for good. It’s why I’ve stayed single this whole time; because life is way more complicated in a relationship.

Then again, something tells me that the ride with Logan Dawson might just be the reprieve I need.
