“Stalker much?”
His chest rumbles with more laughter, and I’m secretly quite pleased with myself that I brought this side out in him. I love that he’s sweet and endearing and open with me behind closed doors. I couldn’t ask for more. “Funny, you’re askin’ for it.”
“I need to sleep,” I say, yawning, my face pressed against his neck.
“And so you will, but I have to tell you now that I don’t accept your clothes bein’ on in the bedroom.”
I huff a laugh. “Oh, you don’t accept it?”
“No, and those Winnie the fuckin’ Pooh pajamas can go in the trash.”
“Hey, those cost good money! And they’re warm.”
“It’s New Orleans, it’s not even cold. I’ll keep you warm.”
“I get cold,” I remind him. “I need more than just cuddles.”
“You get cold because you’re cold blooded, princess.”
“Ha-ha, that would make me warm blooded, asshat.”
“Such a feisty thing. You know I’m countin’ all the times you sass me so I can deny you your next five orgasms.”
“Aren’t we the optimist!” I laugh, then add, “And that sounds needlessly cruel. You wouldn’t want Dozer’s new mommy to be deprived now, would you?”
He shifts and I pull back to look up at him. “What did you say?”
Uh, oh. Too soon?
I frown. “Uh, mommy? I mean, you’re not just my daddy?—”
“Fuck, baby.” He pulls me closer. “You bein’ Dozer’s mom… makes me hard.”
“Holy shit,” I mutter. “Don’t you dare. You just ravished my pussy, you don’t get another round until tomorrow.”
He pulls me back into his chest, sighing deeply. “I can’t help that I’m up twenty-four-seven when you’re around. You takin’ on the dog neither of us wanted does things to me.”
“He’s so perfect. I love that he’s gotten to the heart of both of us.”
“He really has. I was thinkin’ about tryin’ to get him a prosthetic leg,” he says out of nowhere.
“Oh, those are a thing!” I say, leaning up on my elbow to look at him. “I follow a few dogs on Instagram who have prosthetic legs.”
“He does okay, but his little legs are so short.”
“Do you love him, too?” I tease, walking two fingers up his torso. I love the hair smattered across his chest, it makes me want to lick him all over again.
“I guess I just swallowed the damn love bug whole,” he sighs. “Because yeah, I love him. Just don’t go tellin’ anyone.”
I zip up my lips and pretend to throw away the key. Out of nowhere, a big snore shatters the silence. We both burst out laughing. It feels good to laugh again, to let everything go.
Dozer’s bed is down on the floor, but Logan had some stairs delivered so he could make his way up to the bed easily.
“I love him, too,” I whisper. “Sometimes animals really do save us when we least expect it.”
He kisses my forehead. “Go to sleep, we’ve got a lot to do tomorrow.”
I kiss him, enjoying the warmth that envelops me. My wild heart beats all that much faster as I curl up once more, loving the feel of him and knowing that no matter what, I’m his ol’ lady, and he’s my ol’ man.
