“You’re beautiful, Rory.”

“Thank you.”

“Daddy,” I correct.

“Thank you, Daddy.” He grins.

“Good boy. Let me grab you some clothes, and then I’ll make breakfast.”

“Pancakes?” he asks so sweetly.

“If you have the ingredients.”

After making the pancakes, I sit down at the table and pull Rory onto my lap.

“What are you doing?” he asks but doesn’t struggle to get out of my hold.

“I want you close to me.”

“How am I supposed to eat like this?”

“I’ll help you.”

“I’ll feel silly.”

“Let me take care of you.” I offer him a forkful of pancakes. He blushes but then eats it.

“You’re a good cook.”

“Thank you.” I kiss his cheek and take a bite for myself.

“Do you kill people?”

I almost choke at his bluntness, but I need to be honest. “Yes, rabbit.”

“Really?”

“I’m sorry.”

“Not innocent people though or the police?” he rushes to add.

“No innocents, and I pay the police good money to look the other way, but even they wouldn’t be so forgiving if one of their ownwas hurt.” I offer him another bite, which he takes, but he’s got a faraway look in his eyes. “Do you have any more questions?”

I really want to get this over with now that he’s started.

“Murder was the biggest one.”

“I do have a few very strict rules. No rape, no human trafficking, no child or animal abuse.”

“Those are all good rules, but does that mean you run drugs?”

“Yes, I receive and distribute out of state.”

“You don’t sell it here?”

“I don’t like that shit.”

“Seems a little?—”
