“Good choice.”

“Cabbage?”

“Sure, cabbage is good in a stir-fry. I think that might be enough for our first try. Let’s move to the protein next.”

There are fewer options for meat, but it’s still a lot.

“How about steak? You can never go wrong with meat.”

I snicker. “Meat. But yes, that sounds good. Can I have double?”

“I suppose you are a growing boy.” He pats my belly and adds another scoop of steak.

Then we move to the sauce station, and my head is going to explode. How the hell does anyone choose?

I didn’t have to worry, though. Daddy knows what to do.

“Do you want something on the sweeter side? Or more savory?”

“Spicy,” I say, and he grimaces. “Don’t like spicy?”

“Pepper is about as much as I can handle. But you go ahead.”

“Okay.” I spoon some sauce into a little cup.

“Now we just need to have them cook it. I’ll make my dinner while you wait for yours.”

“Awesome!” I hurry over to the grill area and hand the chef my tray.

They are standing in the center of a large circular flat-top grill. The chefs cook and toss multiple dishes, working fast to keep up with the diners. Leo joins me a minute later, and we watch the show until our food is ready.

When we get back to our table our drinks are already there, along with glasses of water.

“Make sure you drink your water too.”

“Okay.” Not sure why it matters, but he said so, so I take a drink of water before I take a drink of beer. “Ah, that’s good.”

“I’ve never been much of a beer drinker,” he says as he picks all of the fruit and umbrellas out of his drink.

“You want to try a sip?” I offer.

“Sure, why not?” He reaches over and smells the glass. “It doesn’t smell bad.”

“Just try it.”

“Fine.” He takes a sip and sputters. Then he wipes his mouth with a napkin. “Oh God! That’s awful.” He takes a big drink of his Mai Tai, and I try not to laugh. “Why would anyone drink that? It tastes like a skunk’s butt.”

Now I give in and laugh. “No, it doesn’t.”

“Don’t question Daddy,” he scolds and takes another drink of his Mai Tai. “That was awful.”

“So dramatic,” I tease.

“We’ll see if I let you kiss me with that mouth,” he threatens.

“I’ll find a mint.”

“Eat your food before it gets cold,” he grumps.
