She looks at me, seeming to have a similar look of doubt on her face. “I’m great. Are you?”

I stand up, cupping her face with both my hands, rubbing my thumbs across her cheeks, and her eyelashes fan her cheeks as she leans into me.

“You’re fucking amazing, you know that?”

Her eyes shoot open to look up at me. “You don’t look at me differently now?”

“Does it look like I am?”

“No, but I…I really liked that. What if I…I want it again?”

I smile. “Then we do it again.”

Asher rejoins us, but pulls Rae into him, “I should get going. Do you need a ride?”

She looks at me, and then back to Asher. “I’ll have my driver take me home. You both don’t need to worry about it.”

“It’s no problem, Sunshine,” I try to tell her.

She gives me a small smile. “I can’t have you two fighting over who gets to drive me.”

“Don’t worry, when we fight, it’ll be over something much bigger than that,” Asher jokes.

I roll my eyes. I still don’t know what to think about the guy, but I can’t deny that I didn’t hate what just happened here. And I know that means he may be in our lives a bit more moving forward.

Because whatever Rae wants, Rae is going to get.

CHAPTER 21

Asher

When I come out of the bathroom, I see them. Grayson is holding her face in his hands. I know this was just fun, it doesn’t mean anything, but I feel unwelcome when they are looking at each other like that.

I have to get out of here.

They’re the type of people that end up together. They get a happy ending. I’m just a pit stop along the way. An experiment, a little bit of fun.

They’ll go on to live their perfect life together and act as if I never even existed.

I offer to take Rae home, just to extend my time with her a little longer, but she says no to both Grayson and me. Before we leave, I pull her into me one more time and kiss her, just once, just barely. Because I don’t know if this will be the last time.

I pull back, and Rae’s beautiful eyes flutter open. I try not to read too much into the look she’s giving me. She’s satiated, and high on orgasms, it doesn’t mean anything.

“See you later,” I tell her, knowing full well that’s possibly a lie.

She nods, and I leave the studio, seeing her driver alreadywaiting outside so I know she’ll be safe. Or she’ll go with Grayson.

Either way, I’m not going to stick around and find out.

When I get back to my apartment, the high of everything that happened has faded. That comes with the aching pain in my shoulder returning. I did my best to limit the movement, but I didn’t really care. I want to give Rae the full extent of my body, but I haven’t been able to and I fucking hate that.

Grayson can because he’s not hurt. He can still play his sport, do his job. While I’m here in pain and unable to do the one thing I know I’m good at.

Well, two. Fighting and fucking. I can’t do one, and the other is limited.

I get in the shower, hoping the hot water will help the pain, but it doesn’t. I relent to taking some of the pain medication the doctor gave me. I don’t like how tired they make me, but sleep is probably the best thing for me right now. If only so I don’t think about what Rae and Grayson are doing now that I’m back home.

The TVin the gym is playing the football game. I don’t particularly care about it, I’m too busy trying to focus on working out enough to tire myself out but not hurt my shoulder. They start talking about a player with a name I recognize and inwardly groan.
