The next day when I still haven’t heard from Audrey, I realize that Rae may not have said anything. That makes me like her a little more because I was sure she’d snitch. I decide that I’ll say something. Better she hears it from me anyway.

Asher

I’m back.

Asher

In Denver, I mean.

Audrey

Does that mean I can actually see you sometime?

I scoff at the screen, of course she doesn’tactually care that I’m back. Typical Audrey, snarky at best. I’ve always been an inconvenience to her, ever since I came into her life.

Asher

Try to contain your excitement, but don’t worry you don’t have to see me. I didn’t come back to crash your life again.

Audrey

Don’t be a dick, I want to see you.

I toss my phone to the side, sure she does. She has her life, and I’ve never fit into it. I know that hasn’t changed.

Especially now, because the only thing worse than her fuck up brother coming into her life to invade her space is her now injured brother doing the same. A fucked up, failed, loser that came crawling back.

I throw the blanket off with a growl, determined to do something today. Even if I’m not supposed to work out yet, there’s nothing stopping me from doing legs, or running. Or something that doesn’t involve my arms, but I need to distract my mind.

Even getting changed has been a pain in the ass to me, and I forgo dealing with a shirt, opting to jog in just some gym shorts. I want to take this annoying sling off, but when I tried, the intense pain from any small movement just about took me out.

I guess I’m jogging with it today. I cannot wait for this torture to be over and I can get back to normal use ofbothmy arms.

I thought one of the things I could do while stuck in bed would be to jack off. Who doesn’t enjoy doing that? Well, turns out even that’s difficult with this fucking thing on my arm. It’s made everything in my life ten times more difficult. Everything I enjoyed has been taken away from me from this single injury.

After my run that doesn’t last as long as I hoped because my entire body is still recovering, I’m annoyed once again at the limitations my own body is putting on me. I hop in the shower, which is one of the few times I’m allowed to take off the sling. I’m still unable to move my arm much, but the hot spray ofwater feels good. I should be icing my injury more than I have been, but the heat feels like it soothes everything else that hurts.

Once I’m done, I look at my phone again, ignoring the new texts from Audrey, but not the one I left unanswered from Rae.

And I do something risky because what else do I have to lose at this point? I have nothing else going on. Who knows, maybe the “good girl” doesn’t want to be so good anymore. That’s one area where I know I can be useful.

CHAPTER 12

Rae

Ihave a baseball cap on my head, a generic one because if I wear any of the sports ones I own it doesn’t take much to deduce that it’s me. I’m trying my hardest to make myself as unrecognizable as I can. I don’t have any wigs, so my hair is pulled back at the base of my neck. I’m going to wear sunglasses and I’m half tempted to throw on a fake mustache for good measure. I think that plan may backfire and that would draw more attention to me than not.

The weather has cooled, but we don’t have any snow yet, so I dress in some jeans, and a black sweater under a jacket. I’m still not convinced that this is a good idea. Normally, I would invite Grayson to come with me, but he’s out of town on his road trip so I’m on my own. I could see if Easton is in town, but I’m not as close with him.

Plus, Asher isn’t exactly friends with any of my friends or family.

Grayson can be nice, he’s nice to basically everyone. Easton isn’t. He’s not exactly mean, but he’s…less tolerant of people if they piss him off. Those two may look alike, but they couldn’t be more different.

I have no idea what I’m walking into with Asher, I don’t evenknow where we’re going, which has my anxiety making an appearance. I try to calm myself knowing that if someone tried to do anything to me Asher is a professional MMA fighter, he could protect me. If he wants to, that is.

Shaking my head, I try to shake away the worry. I’m sure everything will be fine. Just two old friends catching up.

He insisted on picking me up, I tried to tell him he didn’t have to. My driver really doesn’t mind, in fact he likes to keep an eye on things anyway. Asher wouldn’t take no for an answer, which should make me nervous since I don’t really know him anymore, but I finally agree.
