“You don’t have to worry. I just want you to know that I don’t expect anything. It was a one-time kiss.” The silence stretched, and she moved the cloth back and forth over the metal. She felt his intense stare on her and peered up at him.
“You didn’t push me away,” he said softly.
Her heart melted. “Did you expect me to?”
“No,” he admitted honestly. “I just…I couldn’t stop myself. When I saw you standing there…”
Raven shook her head. “We are working a job together. That’s all. I don’t expect to be kissed again.” There. She had said it. She had given him an escape. He was going to be a Templar Knight. He didn’t need her to be his temptation. She cleaned her blade, rubbing off all the dirt.
He swept the cloth over his blade. “How is a weapon like a kiss?”
Raven examined her blade, holding it up so she could see any dents. “Well, you never kiss family passionately. You have to be careful who you kiss.” She stood up, putting her hand on her hip. She grinned broadly at him. “And you only use a kiss if you can win.” She turned to Thunder.
Landyn stood. “Did you win?”
“It’s notifI won, butwhatI won.” She grinned. “My first kiss.” And it had been spectacular.
