I sit cross-legged on my bed and open up my laptop.

My eyes are stinging with tears, and yet my hands are shaking with rage.

I didn't think it was possible to feel so much all at once, but I have a feeling the Sullivans have that effect on everyone. Men like them live off pain and rage.

I load up the server and quickly type in my email and login before hitting enter.

Access denied.

I delete my details and type them in again, but once again, I'm unsuccessful.

"Are youkiddingme?" I yell at my laptop.

I try refreshing the page, but after typing in my login details for the third time, I finally give in to the fact that I am officiallyLorcan Sullivan's puppet. I dread to think of the story he spun to get me blacklisted from my job without so much as a phone call from my boss asking if I was all right. Granted, I have only been working at the firm for just over six months, but I thought I had built up a pretty good rapport with my boss and colleagues.

I guess it wasn't good enough to warrant a wellness check.

Fucking great.

I guess if I have any hope of paying the rent, I better make sure to make one hell of a first impression with Cormac Sullivan. Then again, if I don't, Lorcan will kill me, so it won't even matter.

I guess I could say there's a silver lining.

Yeah. I didn't think so.

Chapter Four

CORMAC

Brennan groansas he slides into the passenger seat of my car. "I think I'm still drunk. I'm never drinking again."

It's barely eight a.m. on Monday morning. The wedding was two days ago, yet somehow my brother is still in his tux and reeking of alcohol.

But after I called to let him know I picked up a lead on Lorcan, he insisted on joining me.

"You only have yourself to blame. Now buckle up, we're already running late."

Brennan continues to grumble as I head out of Ronan's estate, flashing my lights to thank the guards before speeding through the gates.

He groans. "Fuck, slow down. My stomach feels like a washing machine."

"You better not throw up in my car."

"I'm not making any promises." Brennan winds down the window and sticks his head out like a dog.

I keep my eyes focused on the road, gripping the steering wheel until my knuckles turn white.

This is the first lead I've had in weeks, and I don't want to let it slip through my fingers because I have to pull over to stop Brennan from emptying the contents of his stomach all over my leather interior.

Brennan finally sits back in his seat and winds up the window when we reach the highway.

He pulls down the visor and checks his hair in the mirror. "I thought today was your first day atSullivan Investments?"

"It is."

"So, shouldn't you be headed to the office rather than wherever the hell we're going?"

"We're heading to a clubhouse near the city. I can head straight to the office once we're done." I push my foot down on the accelerator to overtake a cab.
