The subtle change in her tone alone had me gripped. She was usually so unassuming and soft-spoken. “See, you’re getting the hang of it,” I replied, deflecting from the fact I was already hooked. “To answer your question, I’m into lots of things.”

“How do you want to do this?” Rona asked, innocently.

“It’s up to you. You’re in control,” I said, with a tight throat. Damn, I was nervous.

“Okay, I’ll leave and come back in.” Rona picked up her bag and slid it over her shoulder. She met my eyes with a little playful smile before heading in the opposite direction.

I turned around and watched her head to the restroom, her delicate hips swaying as she walked. Fuck. I was not prepared for Rona to actually do this, despite all my bravado. And I didn’t want her to hit on anyone else. What a stupid thing to say.

I sat at the empty table for quite a few minutes while the club continued all around me. People were dancing. Everything was very loud. Hopefully she hadn’t had a change of heart and gone home.

The next time I looked up, Rona was sitting at the next table over, openly gazing at me. She seemed more self-assured and relaxed than I’d seen her before. She looked down and away, and then back at me, followed by the sexiest smile, ending with her biting her lip again.

I swallowed, feeling my pulse quicken.

The space between us felt thick with something, kind of silly but also something real. Like this wasn’t far off what either of us would want to happen in normal circumstances.

She got up.

I felt her move towards me, what was that?

“Hi,” she said, sitting on the edge of the table next to me, her voice lower still.

“Hi,” I mirrored, trying to keep my voice even but I think it came out like a badly delivered line in a low budget web series.

“Do you think people have auras?”

“Um, yes. I think they do. Why do you ask?”

“Because yours is the most powerful and magnetic one I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t help but come over here to see you up closer and now that I am here, I can’t take my eyes off you. You’re fucking gorgeous. Did you know that?”

I felt a heat spread across my chest, neck and face. Rona was so hot like this.

Rona moved a little closer. “I think you might be very powerful, and I like that in a woman. Can I ask you a question?”

“Yeah, of course.”

She got closer still, brushing her leg against mine. “Would you like to dance with me?”

For some reason, I was not expecting that. I thought she might try to talk more, maybe drop a few more cheesy pick-up lines. This felt way better than that and instantly upped the stakes. Would she try to kiss me? The thought alone sent a wave of excitement coursing through my body.

“Yes.”

Rona headed off towards the dancefloor.

I followed dutifully behind, checking out her ass and biting my bottom lip to remind myself to keep this clean. I had to let Rona lead here.

Since we were talking about auras, Rona danced like a superstar. It was like she glowed from within. She had that certainje ne sais quoi, that is reserved for those people who have something special to offer the world. The way she moved with the music – free and controlled, sexy and intentional – the way she carried herself, it demanded attention and admiration, both of which I wanted to give her in spades. Perhaps I was staring.

We moved to the beat along with the people around us. The music felt louder over here. I felt the heavy house beatsreverberate through my body, or maybe it was coming up through the floor. Whatever it was, I liked it.

She leaned in and spoke towards my left ear. “I like the way you look at me.” She pulled away, smiling seductively.

Rona was killing this pick-up routine, and we hadn’t even touched yet. If she wanted my number, I’d give her it in seconds.

She came in closer, right in front of me, as if she wanted to dance with me directly. We locked eyes. It was like there was no one else in the club, just us.

“Will you lead?” Rona asked, seductively.
