“Fuck—” Erebus let out a loud groan and let his head fall back, settling his hands behind his head.
He stared up at Nyx in adoration, one hand going to her waist and the other going up to caress her breast. Nyx settled her knees on either side of his hips and rocked against him, causing another strangled groan from Erebus.
Nyx sat up a little straighter and guided him into her, moving slowly until he was seated deep inside her.
“Ohhh…” Nyx’s voice was breathy, and she adjusted, this angle the only way that she could take all of him. He couldn’t speak, trying to slow his breath so it wouldn’t be over before it had even started.
Nyx began moving her hips, riding him slowly until they were slick with sweat and gasping for air. He moved his hand from her breast to her chin, gripping it and forcing her to make eye contact with him. They stayed like that for a few desperate moments, saying everything they couldn’t say out loud with their eyes and their bodies as the earth itself started to shake.
Erebus growled, moving up to a sitting position and gripping her waist tightly. He began thrusting up into her, taking control from underneath her, his movements wild and frantic. Nyx was overpowered immediately as she threw her hands around his neck, leaning down and biting his shoulder as he fucked her.
“Come on, Nýchta…” Erebus turned his head and whispered to her, his lips dragging across her ear. “Finish for me. Let me know how much you missed me. I want tofeelit.” His voice took on a dark, authoritative tone that left no room for argument. His hand dropped to her clit, making slow, intense circles that contradicted the wild rhythm of his hips. The combination was devastating, and with Erebus’s words in her ear, Nyx raked her nails across his back and lost herself to the sensations.
As soon as he felt her coming around him, Erebus was done. He thrust up into her one final time and held her there, reaching their climaxes so intensely that they exploded into their primordial forms—the waves of pleasure so intense that it ripped them from their own bodies.
Neither of them knew how much time had passed when they came to their senses. Erebus materialized first, conjuring a shadow tree once more as he leaned back against it. He propped one knee up and kicked his other leg out wide, an invitation. Nyx slipped into her body once more like breathing, long, dark hair flowing down her back. Erebus’s smile was downright devilish as he ran a hand through his hair, pushing the sweaty hair off his temples.
Nyx grinned softly and gracefully slid down to the ground, sliding between his legs like a ship desperate for port. She rested her head on his chest, toying with the folds of his chiton on his shoulder—which had somehow reappeared. Erebus sighed, a deeply contented sound, leaning his head back.
“That was…” Erebus whispered as he turned and kissed Nyx’s forehead, his lips lingering there.
“Everything,” Nyx smiled. “But I can’t say that I’m willing to go through losing you again, no matter how short a time.” She tightened her grip on his arm.
“Agreed.”
“Promise me something…” Nyx’s voice was somber once more. Erebus tensed for a moment, desperate for their moment to not be taken away from them after all this time.
“Anything.” His answer was honest.
“Promise me, you will let this fade away. There is to be no more talk of this damned war between us, Erebus.”
He was silent—not because he didn’t want to make that promise; he would fall on any sword she placed in front of him right now. Everything was so volatile amongst the immortals in that moment, he might break that promise without realizing it or if new information came to pass.
“Nyx,” he stroked her hair gently, “I will defer to you. I always have. That will never change… but I cannot promise that a topic like this will never come up again. Especially if it plagues everyone we know and the world that we live in.”
“I’ll build a new world,” Nyx growled, and black magic flickered across her skin. Erebus pushed it away with warm strokes of his hands, keeping her temper down.
“I have no doubt it would be one that I would love to live in, but you would miss the human souls you care for.” Nyx harrumphed in response, and Erebus couldn’t resist a chuckle at the sound coming from such a powerful, cosmic being.
“We’ll see.” She accepted her answer in its wisdom. “I don’t have to like it, though.”
“You don’t.” Erebus leaned down and kissed her forehead. “If I may ask… why don’t you want to be part of something bigger than the darkness?”
Nyx’s whole body went still. She picked herself up off his chest, staring at him with an intense gaze.
“Bigger… than the darkness?” Her voice was incredulous.
“I digress,” he raised his hands in surrender. “That was a poor word choice. Why don’t you want everyone to see the greatness of the darkness?”
“Why would I want to be bigger by the human’s standards? I am already all-consuming. Who I am, what I am, what wedo,Erebus… They will never be able to change it. How can you be bothered what the fly thinks of the wolf?”
“Humans are afraid of the darkness now.” Erebus shrugged. “It does not bother me. It pushes me to the end of my wits when I hear how they are afraid of our children or how they don’t respect you—”
“You respect me,” Nyx cut him off, grabbing hold of his face with her hands. “That is all I need.” She began pleading with him, tears once more springing to her eyes. “Don’t you understand?Youare all I need. Please don’t make me lose you to chase the adoration ofgods.”She spit the last word out like a poison.
Erebus stared at her with shock, until his hand came up and grabbed the back of Nyx’s head. He pulled them together, the kiss untamed from the very start, causing Nyx’s body to curl into him on instinct. When they finally broke apart, he nodded.
“You are all I need, in this life and the next, through time immemorial. When immortals die and humans live forever, when we are all swallowed up by hells even unknown to us, we’ll always be there in the darkness, Nyx, and that is all I need or could ever want.”
