Jackie Anne:Does anyone know if these old buildings have attics? I think a raccoon is stuck in mine ...

Comments:

Cain Smith:You don’t need any more pets ...

Jackie Anne:This one was already my pet! I was dressing her up in a cute outfit and she ran!

Jade Clark:Wait a minute, are you saying there’s a dressed-up raccoon in the attic of your apartment? What’s it wearing?

Jackie Anne:A pink tutu.

Jade Clark:God, I love this town.

My mind was still turningover every interaction with Alex as we got back to the hotel. The food had been good, but I’d barely tasted it. Instead, all I could do was focus on what he and Piper were saying.

It took her just a few months to get past every single wall I’dever built, and now she was helping me do the same with other people.

I might never know what I did to deserve her, but she was here. She’d helped me with Alex, and that kind of care was something that was new to me.

“Thank you,” I whispered when we were finally alone. “For taking the lead with Alex.” I’d been quiet in the car ride, and she hadn’t pushed me to talk. It was like she knew I needed time.

“I didn’t step in too far?”

“Never. I don’t know if I’ve said it, but you’re welcome in every part of my life.”

“You haven’t, but I’ll remember.” One corner of her mouth tilted up. Piper stepped closer, pausing before pressing a kiss to the corner of my mouth. My heart lurched. When she pulled back to look at me, I was sure she’d somehow stolen it.

I was hers. There was no doubt about it.

Everything could go wrong. My past could fuck this all up for me, but hearing Alex’s words followed by Piper’s agreement made me care just a little bit less.

And for once, I wanted to hope that everything would be okay.

My hands landed on her cheeks and I pulled her to me. The kiss started off gentle, but this time, I wanted more. There was no going back. While my hands roamed the length of her body, I knew at that moment that I was going to give her whatever she wanted.

Maybe I’d regret this. Maybe I’d look back and wish I hadn’t given my heart away so freely. But for now, having her close to me was worth all the heartbreak that would come later.

I didn’t do this. I didn’t allow touch like this with anyone else. I never threw caution to the wind.

Piper had changed me.

My hands moved from her hips to her ass, pulling her closer. Her breath hitched, but she didn’t pull away. Her grip only tightened.

She felt as good as she looked, and I knew I’d be thinking about this forever. There could be no greater person. Piper was the one.

I didn’t need to ask if she was okay. I knew she’d tell me, just like she knew I would do the same. Instead of spending time in my own head, worrying about every one of my movements, I was alive. I was focused on her and how good this felt.

Piper’s hands moved down, tracing along my belt for just a moment before going underneath my shirt.

I let out a groan when her fingers touched skin.

Her lips left mine, and I only had a split second to wonder if she needed to slow down before she spoke.

“I want your shirt off,” she said. “I want to see you.”

“Yes, ma’am.” As I worked on each of the buttons, I went back in for more kisses. It slowed me down, but I got to taste her, and that was all that mattered in this moment.

“So desperate,” she teased as she pulled away. Her eyes trailed down my skin just like the first time she’d seen me shirtless. It filled me with the same anticipation as it had then.
