THE AGREEMENT

Carrera

“You again,” Slash bit out. “I’d rather work with the devil himself.”

As he studied her face, her expression belied her words. Though she’d never admit it, she was happy to see him.

“Perfect,” Carrera replied. “I’ve always wanted a helper.”

As her gaze jumped back to Luciano, a growl ripped from her throat.

A throat Carrera wanted to place his mouth on and kiss.

“Figure it out.” Luciano kissed both her cheeks before he rose. On his way out, he shook Carrera’s hand.

Carrera poured himself a brandy, eased onto the sofa beside her. “I’ll help you.”

She sipped her drink, slicked her lower lip with her tongue before leaning back and crossing her legs.

He followed her movement, appreciating every little thing about her. Her arched eyebrow, the way her eyes stayed locked on his. He wanted to rake his fingers through her golden hair, pull her close, and kiss her for days. Then, take her homewith him and bury himself inside her heat until they both surrendered to the mind-numbing ecstasy.

Hunting a predator would come naturally to them both. Being together would be like the fucking fourth of July. White-hot fire, scorching heat, and explosions for days.

His junk moved and he grunted. Common sense told him to move away from her. But he couldn’t. Beyond her beauty, her determination, and her independent nature, she needed help. This was his chance to step up and be that man. The universe was handing him a Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free card.

Do it.

“Whatever you need, I’ll help you,” he said.

She laughed. The sudden and unexpected joy on her face sent a powerful punch of adrenaline racing through him. Her throaty laugh was sexy, yet the happiness in her eyes was what he used to live for.

Making Amanda May happy.

That’s what G-ma had called her, so that’s what he used to call her too.

They learnedfromeach other andwitheach other. It was a wild, wild time in their teenage lives. It had been magical and one of a kind.

“Here’s what I know,” Carrera said. “You want access to the VIP rooms and you need to make it look real. Is there anything else going on like money laundering or drugs?”

“All I know is that six dancers have gone missing. Two from the same family. The GM insists they all ghosted, but I don’t believe that.”

“Okay,” he said. “What else?”

“The police did a basic check, but no real follow up. I can’t let this go. If it hadn’t been for Elsa, that could have been me.”

What the hell is she talking about?

She nibbled her lower lip. That was one of her tells. That was her telling him she’d said too much.

He wanted her to start feeling comfortable around him, so he didn’t push for information. Instead he said, “Tell me what you need.”

“I need a man to proposition me for sex.”

That made him smile. “I think every man at that club would love to do that.”

“And I need to tell my B of a boss—the one who got shit-canned from ALPHA and blames me—” She paused. “Why am I the one who’s blamed whenotherpeople fuck up?”
