She placed it on the tower and it slid down.
“Good job, Willow.”
Rebel set Clark in front of the activity walker and he took a few steps forward. “Way to go, Clark.”
“I found out that Slash—who went by Amanda Maynard—wasn’t really Amanda,” Carrera continued.
“Who was she?”
“She was the reason my mom was dead, and my dad had started drinking. He lost his job, and couldn’t take care of us kids.”
“Whoa,” Rebel said.
“Yeah, it was bad,” Carrera said. “Rock-bottom bad.”
Slash
Slash and Britreturned to the house. Into the kitchen they went, still breathing hard, each guzzling a large glass of water.
“That was such a good run,” Slash said.
“You know, you’re in the middle of your story,” Brit said.
“Yeah, let’s get out of these sweaty clothes?—”
“I have a feeling this story calls for a glass of wine.”
“More like an entire bottle.” Slash glanced around. “Don’t we need to start cooking for your dinner party?”
“It’s being catered by Joaquin’s hotel.”
“Nice,” Slash said as she looked out the family room window. “The guys are outside with the kids.”
Brit joined her. “Let’s shower. Joaquin will either put the babies down or we’ll do it once we’re ready. Do you want to come into my bedroom when you’re finished or should we meet downstairs? I don’t want you to be uncomfortable around Carrera.”
Slash smiled. “I’m okay. Talking is helping, which I never would have believed.”
They went upstairs. On the way down the hallway, Brit said, “Fresh towels in the bathroom closet. There’s shampoo and conditioner, plus hair dryer. If you need anything?—”
“Thanks for being there for me.” After Slash walked into the guest room, she shut the door, and stripped down. In the en suite bathroom, she turned on the faucet, dropped a towel on the bench, and stepped into the doorless, walk-in shower.
As the warm water rinsed away the sweat, her thoughts jumped to Carrera. Their circle of friends was tight, so she wouldn’t be surprised if he started showing up everywhere.
And thanks to Elsa, he’s stalking me now too.
She sudsed up, tried not to think about him, but his stunningly handsome face wouldnotgo away. She’d been looking forward to this dinner party all week, so she’d ignore him like he wasn’t even in the room.
Yeah, like that’s gonna work.
Despite hating him, she was crazy attracted to him, even all these years later.
On auto-pilot, she washed her hair, then worked the conditioner through.
As long as I stay clear of him, I’m good.
As she rinsed the conditioner from her hair, the bedroom door shut. Seconds later, Carrera walked into the bathroom wearing only black boxer briefs, the cotton material clinging to him like a second skin.
Every cell in her body came alive. Hit after hit of adrenaline raced through her while she soaked up all that hotness. She had a front-row seat to absolute male perfection.
