“We probably shouldn’t even be here,” Carrera murmured. “This isn’t an ALPHA-sanctioned hit.”

“We can’t talk about this at home—I mean, your place. Elsa loves studying the white board. She’s fascinated by the cases. You should’ve seen her the day I brought her out here for training.” Slash chuckled. “She was on the edge of her seat. I’ve never seen her so locked-in on anything.”

His gaze drilled into hers.

“What?” she asked.

“You called my house home.”

“I corrected myself.”

He smiled. “Move in with me.”

“I kinda have.”

“Most of your things are still at your place. What about selling or renting your townhouse?”

She leaned back in the chair and studied his face. He was serious.

“My favorite part of the day is waking up next to you, and my other favorite part of the day is loving you in my bed, then falling asleep with you in my arms.” He kissed her.

She appreciated his honesty, loved his romantic side.

“It’s going to take months before Elsa’s home is rebuilt,” she said. “I’m gonna be straight-up with you?—”

“I hope so,” he said.

“She likes living with you—with us,” Slash said. “I never thought she was lonely. She’s got a life, activities, friends, but she seems happier with us.”

“She told me she doesn’t miss the stairs,” he said. “What doyouthink about her living with us?”

She smiled. “You’re slick.”

He pointed to himself. “Me? Nah.” He paused. “What do you think about moving in, for real?”

Slash had fallen deeply in love.

Should I tell him?

Yes, tell him.

“I’ll move in,” she said. “And make us official, butonlyso you’ll stop asking me.”

He laughed. “That’ll work.”

“I love that Elsa is with us. I adore her so much.” Slash’s eyes grew moist with emotion, and she cleared her throat. “I love you, Carrera. I know you’re my person. You’ve always been my person.”

He placed one hand on her cheek, the other around the back of her neck, beneath her hair. “I will love you fiercely for the rest of my life.”

She melted from his words and the tender way he held her, but the love shining in his eyes made her feel like she’d finally come home.

She tapped her laptop. “Okay, let’s focus up.”

It was after eleven when they finished strategizing. Like any kill mission, she went over best-and-worst-case scenarios.

She appreciated that Carrera didn’t take lead. Despite his alpha tendencies and his need for control, he understood that this was her mission.

“We have a saying at ALPHA,” she said. “We go in together, we come out together. That includes a body bag.”
