“Where’s your lotion?” he asked.

“Bathroom.”

“Get naked, get in bed.”

She stared at him. “You’re kidding, right?”

“I want to be the man you deserve. Someone you trust and can rely on. The one you share your fears, your dreams, your dirtiest fantasies with. I’m not holding back. You’re gonna hear about my goals, my dreams, and my secrets, even the illegal ones?—”

That last one caught her attention. “What illegal ones?”

“Get in bed and I’ll tell you.” He waggled his eyebrows.

“This, I gotta hear.” In her bathroom, she collected the lotion, handed it to him. “Need a sock?”

He chuffed out a laugh. “This rub isn’t for me.”

She dropped the robe, his gaze fell to her naked body, and a growl rumbled out of him.

“You sure you’re not here for a three AM booty call?” she asked.

“No sex.”

She lay on her stomach, turned to watch him strip down to his black boxer briefs.

“How is this not a role play?” she asked. “You’re my massage therapist. I’m in pain, you rub me, you’ve got a hard on. I’m getting aroused just laying out the story.”

“You get one story tonight,” he said. “My illegal kills or a sexy story.”

“I’ll take one tonight, one tomorrow night.”

“That sounds like a date,” he replied.

“A massage,” she said. “One now, one tomorrow.”

“You got it,” he replied. “Right after dinner on the Potomac.” After moving her hair off her shoulders, he squirted lotion into his hand, rubbed them together, and started massaging her.

“That feels great,” she said on a sigh.

Strong hands worked her muscles until they hummed. He took his time, caring for her in a way that made her soul sing. She relaxed, breathing through the pain of a knot until he massaged it away. She never envisioned they’d be decent toward each other, but a massage? Didn’t seem real.

“How am I doing?” he asked.

Her eyes fluttered open and she was rewarded with his smile. “You might have jumped from one tofivepercent.”

“A five percent chance of winning you back,” he murmured. “Big win today.”

“Yeah, you went from a Special Agent to a Deputy Director.”

He leaned down, whispered in her ear, “Not that. You. I’m confident that one day you’ll be mine.”

This is feeling way too romantic.

Time to shut this down.

“Tell me about your illegal secrets,” she said.

“I’m an assassin for Luciano,” he murmured while continuing to massage her back.
