“Karen knows him,” Carrera said. “He was the guy in her office when I dropped off the money. He was chillin’ on the sofa.”
“Right,” she said. “You thought they were screwing, but he and Deb were just talking in the orgy room. As we were leaving, I saw him alone on the sofa, watching us.”
“I can’t fault him for ogling you,” he said. “You’re every man’s fantasy. Maybe he’s screwing Karen, talking to the dancers in the orgy room, andhe’s a voyeur.”
She nibbled her lip for a quick second. “He’s not adding up for me. Why not have sex with Deb?”
“Maybe he doesn’t want to screw in an open room. Maybe she said no.”
“Karen is unreasonable, narcissistic, and out of touch with reality. Trust me, I worked with her. I can see her firing a dancer fornotdoing something.” Slash forwarded the video sixty minutes, then stopped. “Deb’s exiting the room alone.”
“She doesn’t look scared,” Carrera said.
“No, she doesn’t,” Slash agreed. “We don’t know if they left together.”
“They didn’t,” Carrera said.
Her eyebrows jutted up. “How do you know?”
“When we drove out, I saw him leaving alone.”
She fast-forwarded the video until the guy left. He kept his head down as he made his way down the low-lit hallway.
Slash pushed off the stool. “I think we’ve got something.” She wrapped her fingers around his biceps and led him into his office.
The second she touched him, heat spread through him like a raging wildfire. In the office, she let go, leaving him wanting more.
So much more.
She tapped the white board next to the name Kim Billiawitz. “Kim journaled about Greg. She said he was shy and sweet, and he tipped her $500 after talking to her in the VIP room. Then, they ran into each other outside the club.”
“You told me he said he worked for the CIA. Easy excuse for not being able to talk about himself.”
“Exactly,” Slash said. “Kim wrote that he fumbled his way through asking her out, which she found adorable.”
“Would you like that?” he asked.
“Like what?”
“A man who’s shy and awkward.”
Her gaze stilled on his. “Shy and awkward are definitelynotmy hot buttons.”
“What is your hot button?”
“You find it, you can push it.”
“Challenge accepted,” he said.
Her gaze darkened, she ran her tongue over her lower lip.
She liked that.
“Have dinner with me on my boat,” he said.
Silence.
“What?” she murmured.
