Fifteen minutes later, they arrived at the crematorium in Franconia. Though owned by ALPHA, they had access to it.

A man named CK lived in the house next door. Teddy stopped at the gated entrance and pressed the buzzer.

“Yeah,” answered the gruff voice.

“Delivery.”

“Name?”

Turning toward Carrera, Teddy raised his eyebrows.

“Pied Piper,” Carrera said.

The gate opened. Teddy drove through, and Carrera instructed him to drive around back. The metal fire door had been propped open. They carried the body inside.

CK shook Carrera’s hand. “How you been?”

Carrera pressed cash into his hand. “Good. You?”

“Can’t complain.” CK eyed the blue tarp. “Unwrap the deceased.”

Carrera untied the rope, opened the plastic. He and Teddy carried the man into the back, laid him on the cold slab that would be rolled into the fire.

Wasn’t the first time Carrera had done this. Wouldn’t be the last.

Carrera closed Glazer’s eyes. “Your bad decisions led you to this.”

CK chuckled, displaying his stained front teeth. “Everyone ends up here or six feet under, even if you’re a goddamn saint.”

“Maybe so,” Carrera said, “but heaven doesn’t accept sinners.”

“We’re all sinners, my friend,” CK said. “We’re all sinners.” Then CK flicked his gaze from Carrera to Teddy, then back to Carrera. “You can go.”

Carrera shook his head. “You know I stay. Burn him.”

“Don’t trust me still?” CK asked.

“I don’t trust anyone,” Carrera replied.
