“Here?” Brit asked.

“Yeah, he’s working on some special project or something. Gorgeous, gorgeous man. Wow. I could get into some serious trouble with him.”

As Karen prattled on and on, Brit slipped her noise-cancelling earbuds in, and Karen’s nonstop blather ceased to exist.

Brit didn’t care about some guy in charge of special projects. There was only one man who had snagged her attention, and she’d cut it off with him before things even got off the ground.

I can’t get involved with a rogue agent.

But her heart wanted who it wanted. And, without question, that person was Rebel.

Joaquin

Rebel neededto make things right with Brit.

She was angry, and with good reason. After their last convo, he doubted she’d want anything to do with him, but he was determined to make amends.

At the very least, he owed her that. If she hadn’t defied her very clear orders, he’d be dead.

Back at BLACK OPS, he hopped on his club’s website where he signed Brit up for an elite Asylum membership. Next, he rearranged the reservations, clearing the Voyeur room for later that evening.

With his phone in hand, he typed out a text.

“Hey, Brit. Are you still in DC? I want to make things right with you, so I signed you up for a lifetime membership at Asylum and reserved the Voyeur room for you tonight at ten. It’s yours until the club closes.”

He sent the text, then continued typing. “The name of your account is Badass Babe. Change the password, then set it up however you want.”

With that one sent, he turned his attention back to work, but his thoughts jumped back to her. If she invited someone else, he’d might never even have a chance with her.

Don’t throw her into the arms of someone else.

Despite his trepidation about getting back into the dating pool, he opened the Asylum app, invited her to link-up with him at ten, Voyeur room.

If she accepted, tonight would be for her. That would be his apology.

He added a personal message.

“I dare you to spend the evening with me.” He added a wink emoji.

Britain

At six o’clock that evening,Brit and Slash pulled out their earbuds. Karen had just left, and Brit felt like she could breathe for the first time all day. Being around her mentor was exhausting and soul sucking. If Karen wasn’t yakking incessantly, she was bossing Brit around. Neither had been fun.

Slash had been in and out all afternoon, so Brit had perched herself on the corner of Slash’s desk.

As Brit was shutting down, Providence walked in. “I wanted to check-in and see how things are going for you.”

Brit pasted on a cheery smile. “Great.”

“Who’s your mentor?”

“Karen.”

“How’s that going?”

“Not so good, boss.” Slash’s smooth lilt rolled out of her.

Providence hitched a brow. “Why not?”
