“Here, overseas. Some would be combined with kill missions?—”

Her face lit up. “I’m in.”

“Seriously, that fast?”

“You should have been in HRT years ago, but I knew they’d never take you. You’re all about off-roading. But I know you, and I trust you. It’s a no-brainer. Would I get caseload relief?”

“As soon as Providence and Cooper hire more Ops.”

“I’m stretched pretty thin, but I can’t say no to a rescue team,” she said. “Thanks for thinking of me.”

“Dakota was gonna?—”

“Dakota left ALPHA.”

“He runs BLACK OPS, which is where I work.”

Her mouth fell open, and he laughed. It was damn near to impossible to get that kind of reaction from her.

“I can already tell I’m gonna love this,” she said.

“Don’t mention anything about BLACK OPS here.”

“I don’t tell Karen a damn thing.”

“Who?” he asked.

“Karen. We share an office. She’s gotten her hand slapped more than once for talking about ALPHA in public.”

Rebel grimaced.Not cool.

“Most ALPHA Ops don’t know BLACK OPS exists, so I’mquietlybuilding my team,” he explained.

“I gotcha, babe. I’ll walk you out and show you my new bike.”

As they made their way toward the back of the building, Slash murmured, “Here we go.”

“Hey, Slash,” a woman said, her gaze locked on him.

Slash stopped. “Karen, meet Rebel.”

A broad smile filled her face. “Rebel? There’s gotta be a story behind that name.”

“About a hundred of ‘em,” Slash replied.

“Are you a new Op?” Karen asked.

“Special Projects,” he replied.

“I didn’t know we had that. My newest case should be included in your division,” Karen said. “I’ve been put in charge of the Alphabet Killer case.”

“Are you pullin’ Ops to work the case with you?” Rebel asked.

“I don’t need to.” She offered another over-the-top smile. “Maybe we can work on it together.”

“Sorry, darlin’.”

Karen’s expression fell. “Aren’t you working here?”
