“We’re okay. I think what went down with Honor was hard for Brit, especially since the evidence led us to Liliana. I’m sure she’ll talk to you about it.”

“Thank you for making sure both my girls were safe. I trained them to take care of themselves, but I feel better knowing Brit’s in good hands.”

Rebel smiled.

Ask him.

“I’ve fallen pretty hard for Brit.”

“I know.”

“I’m asking her to marry me, and I’d like your blessing.”

Brit padded into the living room, a giant smile on her face. She looked adorable in his sweat shirt and sweat pants, the oversized clothes hanging off her.

“We got company,” he said turning the phone around.

“There’s my angel,” Z said.

Brit sat beside Rebel on the oversized chair. “Hi Daddy. I’m going to say yes, even if you don’t give Joaquin your blessing.”

Both men laughed.

“That’s the Britain I know and love,” Z said. “I would be proud to call you my son, so yes, you have my blessing.”

“Thank you, Philip,” Rebel said.

“How are you doing, Britain?” Z asked.

“I’m sick over Honor,” she replied. “My heart hurts for her, even though she killed all those people. She was such a broken person. I’m so disappointed in myself, Daddy.”

“Why, dear?” Z asked.

“We followed the evidence and it led us to the wrong person.”

“Honor and Whitaker did a good job coving their tracks,” Z said.

“I arrested a woman for crimes she didn’t commit,” Brit said.

A devilish smile lifted Z’s lips. “Consider it payback for her walking out on us.”

Brit’s lips curved. “After everything that’s happened with that family, I’m glad she left. I’m even happier she didn’t take us with her.”

“I would never have let that happen,” Z said.

Tears filled her eyes. “I’m happy to know that.”

“Don’t you worry about Liliana,” Z said. “She’ll be out of jail soon, and looking to profit from the mayhem. I’m sure of it.”

“I love you, Daddy.”

“Love you, angel. Thank you, Joaquin. You did good. You did very good.”

The chat ended.

Brit threw her arms around his neck. “I didn’t mean to walk in on that.”

Rebel kissed her, letting the joy swirl around them in a protective cocoon. When the kiss ended, he got down on one knee. “Britain Skye, I love you with my entire being. You are my person, and I’m yours. I want us to build a life together. Will you marry me?”
