Several screamed, someone started to get up.

“SIT!” Jordan bellowed. “You leave when I let you leave!” He turned to Honor. “Have you told everyone what you’ve learned from the cult?”

“I was waiting for you, sweetheart.”

Ew, she’s with her stepdad.

“Go for it, honey,” Jordan said before planting another kiss on her lips.

Brit’s head was swimming. They’re together. Have I gotten it all wrong? Are they the killers?

Honor tucked the handgun into the waist of her pants, picked up her book, walked to the edge of the stage. There, she displayed the cover.

“For those in the back, it’s called, “Life at Sanders Ranch.Beneath the title, it says,What I learned from my father, Craig Sanders, Doomsday Cult Leader.”

She turned the book toward Craig so he could see the cover. Facing front, she opened the book, but instead of reading an excerpt, she turned the book around so that the audience could see it.

To Brit’s surprise, both pages were blank. Not a word was printed on either side.

Honor flipped to a different section and displayed those two pages. Also void of words. She repeated that one final time, showing the audience two more stark, white pages.

Then, Honor flipped through the book.

To Brit’s surprise, there wasn’t a single, printed word anywhere.

“Get the picture?” Gone was the softness in Honor’s timid voice, her hatred no longer containable. “I learnednothingwhile living here. FUCKING NOTHING!”

“You’ve been talking about doomsday for decades,” Jordan said to Craig. “When that date came and nothing happened, you made up some bullshit reason, then created a new date.”

Jordan’s deranged smile had Brit biting back a gasp. “Honor asked you to pull her from that school, but you couldn’t be bothered. You just passed her off to Mother Sanders. What the fuck is wrong with you? You’ve got a kid who’s getting lockedin closets. She’s getting smacked around. She’s got some nasty cigarette scars on her back.”

Oh. My. God.

“I’ve got news for you, Craig Sanders,” Jordan continued. “Doomsday istoday.”

BANG! BANG!

Both shots hit Craig dead center in the chest. He slumped back in the chair, his white shirt flowing crimson red.

Then, Jordan turned the long gun toward the shocked crowd. “Do. Not. Move. You move, I shoot you. Got it?”

Then, Jordan glared at Brit and Addison. “How nice. Your sisters are here.”

Honor stood beside him. “One’s a liar who betrayed me. I’m guessing the other one is too.”

“Tsk, tsk, ladies,” Jordan said. “You’re going to pay for hurting my sweet Honor.”

“If Whitaker is Candyman, why hadn’t he moved the drugs?” Hawk asked, after Rebel had filled him in. “What good are they stored in his house?”

“I took out his two top guys,” Rebel replied as the bird cut through the darkening sky. “If he was keeping his team lean, he’s got no one to move ‘em.”

Rebel eyed the landscape before him. They were chasing the sun before it dropped below the horizon.

“Push her to go faster,” Rebel said.

“I do, and we may not make it there,” Hawk replied.
