HONOR’S EVENT

Britain

Friday morning, and Brit had been called in to ALPHA HQ by Providence. Rebel pulled into the parking lot and drove around back.

“You sure you don’t want to train with us today?” he asked.

“Positive,” Brit replied. “I’ve got a ton of work to do on the case. The thought of Liliana walking makes me sick. Plus, Providence said she has an office for me.”

His sad face made her smile.

“We’ll still work together,” Brit said, “but I like being around the other Ops.”

“I get that,” he replied. “What time are you and Addison leaving for the cult?”

“Around three. It’s a ninety-minute drive to First Valley, and Honor’s event starts at five.”

“Hawk and I are talkin’ about drivin’ out there?—”

“I wouldn’t waste your time,” Brit said before opening the door to the SUV. “Seriously, we’ll be home by ten.” Brit exitedthe vehicle, pulled her handbag, computer satchel, and lunch container from the back seat.

He exited the SUV and kissed her goodbye. “Are you bringing your weapon tonight?”

“I wasn’t planning on it.”

He hitched a brow.

“I’ll bring it,” she said.

Once inside, she made her way down the hallway. As she approached Providence’s office, the door flew open.

“This is bullshit,” Karen snapped, as she stormed into the hallway, her wrists zip-tied behind her back. When her gaze met Brit’s, she glared at her. “I was doing great, until you came along. First, you get my case and now, I’m arrested.”

Cooper appeared in Providence’s doorway. “You brought his on yourself, Karen.”

“Go to hell,” Karen grumbled as Slash rounded the corner.

“What’s goin’ on?” Slash asked.

“I’m being arrested for obstruction of justice, bitch!” Karen got up in Slash’s face. “You better watch your back ‘cause I blame you!”

Slash arched an eyebrow. “You don’t scare me.”

“Let’s go, Karen,” Cooper said before acknowledging Brit. “Go on in.”

Brit stepped into the office to find Providence on her cell phone.

As she went to leave, Providence said, “Come on in.” Then, to the caller, she said, “Train hard. Love you too.” She hung up and offered Brit a warm smile.

“Have a seat,” Providence said. “Congratulations on arresting the Alphabet Killer.”

Brit eased into a guest chair.

“I’ve moved a few Ops around,” Providence said. “If you want to share an office with Addison, you can.”

“I’d love that,” Brit replied.

“As always, let me know if you have questions.”
