Brit stepped out. “It’s Joaquin’s home. I’m bumming a room off him until I can find something.”

“This is uh-mazing,” Honor said. “Geez, I can’t even believe this.”

As Brit and Addison set down the bags of food, Honor meandered into the living room, letting her fingers graze the top of the sofa before stopping in front of the wall of windows.

“Have you been here before?” Brit asked Addison.

“Once,” Addison replied. “No, twice. Rebel had everyone over after he moved in, then Hawk and I had dinner with him, in December.” She stood next to Honor. “Pretty spectacular, huh?”

“I’ve never been in a house like this,” Honor said. “It’s totally paradise. I don’t think I’d ever get over these views.” She turned around, facing into the condo. “I love the furniture, love the guitars. He even bought some of your art. Wow, just wow. I’m applying to colleges, and I can’t decide if I want to go the medical route or interior design.”

“We don’t know anything about you,” Brit said as she joined them at the windows. “Honor, you’re our guest of honor, so you choose. Do you want to eat first, or have a drink and chat, or change into jammies now?”

“Hmm, so I have this weird relationship with food,” Honor explained. “I can be hungry, but not eat for hours.” She rolled her eyes. “Life at the ranch. We ate when we were told.”

That’s so extreme… and controlling.

“Are you hungry?” Addison asked.

Honor broke eye contact for a few seconds. “Yes.”

“Do you want to eat now or change into comfy clothes, then eat?” Brit asked.

“Oh!” Honor said. “I totally forgot my jammies.”

“I have jammiesandcomfy pants and T-shirts,” Brit said.

“Let’s change now,” Honor said.

In the guest room, Brit found a pair of red and black checkered jammies. She extracted a pair of yoga pants and a pair of comfy pants, along with a sweatshirt, two T-shirts, and a bathrobe.

Honor stood in the doorway. “Can you show me around?”

“Oh, sure,” Brit replied. “Right after we change.”

Honor eyed the pajama set. “That’s super cute.”

Brit handed it to her. “You can wear it home, if you want.”

Addison pulled off her pants, then her shirt, but Honor collected the clothing, walked into the bathroom, and shut the door.

Brit and Addison changed. Honor exited the bathroom, set her folded clothing on the bed. “Maybe I should major in whatever Joaquin studied. That bathroom was straight out of a magazine. Is this how you both grew up?”

They laughed.

“Hardly,” Brit replied. “We had a nice house, but it wasn’t big.”

“Did you share a bedroom?” Honor asked.

“We did after Liliana left,” Addison said.

“Then, after we moved, our dad said we could share or have our own rooms,” Brit said. “We decided to have separate bedrooms but lots of sleepovers. It was fun.”

“Your dad sounds nice,” Honor said.

“He’s the best,” Brit said.

“We adore him,” Addison added. “We didn’t know him very well, then he stepped up when it was just the three of us.”
