She returned wearing a dark brown pant suit with a white shirt.
“You might not feel well, but you lookgreat.”
That made her smile.
“Where’s your ALPHA FBI ID?” he asked.
She stilled. “I know I packed it.” She hurried back toward the guest room. Seconds later, reemerging with her badge and ID. She slipped it into her crossbody bag, shrugged into her coat, and hurried toward the elevator.
“Why don’t I drive you?” he asked catching up with her as the tapped the button.
“It’s just a sore throat.”
He handed her a keycard. “To get back up here.” He kissed her, and she vanished into the elevator.
Britain
Brit’s throat was burning, but she didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. She needed to push through the discomfort, get some meds, and get down to the boarding school.
Fifteen minutes later, she parked at the medical building and hurried inside.
The nurse brought her into an exam room, took her vitals, did a rapid-strep test, and left. Brit had been sitting on the exam table, but she wanted to lie down and go back to sleep.
Knock-knock.
The door swung open and Dr. Felton entered the exam room. “Britain, I heard you’re not feeling well.”
“My throat hurts.”
“The nurse is running a rapid check.” The doctor eyed her tablet. “I haven’t seen you in a while.”
“I moved to Denver, but I’m back,” she replied. “How is it that I’m seeing you? I was told you were booked.”
“I had a cancellation,” Dr. Felton replied.
The doc washed her hands, examined Brit’s throat, then checked her ears and nose. “Wow, that looks like strep. I’ll call in a prescription, that way, it’ll be waiting for you. If the rapid test comes back negative, I can cancel it.”
The doc glanced at the tablet screen. “Do you need a new script for birth control?”
“Ohgod,” Brit blurted.
Dr. Fenton glanced over. “Everything okay?”
“Yes, a new prescription. I forgot to take my pill last night.”
“It happens,” the doctor replied. “Just take it as soon as you can.”
Knock-knock.
The nurse poked her head in. “Test came back positive for strep.” She smiled warmly at Brit. “Feel better.”
“Start taking the antibiotic today,” said the doc. “Finish all of them, even if you feel better in a few days. I sent over the birth control prescription as well. Call my office or message me in the portal for any reason. Any questions for me?”
“I’m good. Thanks.”
“Good to see you again. Feel better.” The doctor exited.
Brit shrugged into her coat, grabbed her handbag, and left. One quick stop at the pharmacy, then back to Rebel’s.
