And people wonder why the hell I work alone. This is the reason.

In the hallway, Rebel said, “We’ll work off-site. It’s too damn crowded, that woman is a pain in the ass, and we’ve gotta make some progress.”

Brit returned to her office, grabbed her coat, and shrugged into it.

As he strode toward the back exit, he was well aware of what he was doing. He was breaking another damn rule.

No other choice.

“This is why I work alone,” he grumbled after she caught up to him. “I’ll drive.”

She stopped in front of his black SUV. “You aren’t working alone.” She narrowed her gaze at him. “You work with me. Where are we going?”

“To ALPHA’s black site.” He opened the door, sat behind the wheel. She climbed in beside him. To his surprise, she said nothing.

He started the engine and rolled out of the parking lot.

“I’m kind of relieved to get out of there,” she said after several minutes. “We can’t work in that cramped space.”

He drove in silence, trying to tamp down the attraction that constantly tugged at him. He glanced over at her, got that much-needed hit of her beauty. He’d turned into a Brit junkie. He fought the urge to touch her. Run his hand over hers. Or stroke her thigh. Maybe even steal a kiss.

After turning down the dirt road and passing thePrivate Property, No Trespassingsign, he broke his silence.

“Dakota Luck might be here,” Rebel said. “You aren’t supposed to know about this place or what it’s used for.”

“The secrets just keep coming,” she murmured.

“If we get kicked out, we’ll work at my place.”

“I’m trying not to be frustrated,” she said.

“Darlin’, I’m way past that.”

He pulled around back, tapped the button. The hangar door opened. He drove in, parked.

“That’s an impressive fleet of vehicles,” she said.

They made their way to the door, stood in front of the scanner. The light turned from red to yellow. Rebel called Dakota.

“Hey,” Dakota answered. “What’s the word?”

“Can you let me in?”

“Isn’t the scanner working?”

“Britain Skye is with me.”

“On my way.” Dakota hung up. A minute later, he opened the door.

“Britain Skye, Dakota Luck,” Rebel said.

“Good to meet you,” Brit said.

“Welcome to ALPHA,” Dakota said before regarding Rebel. “You love to break the rules, don’t you?”

“No place for us to work at HQ,” Rebel said. “If we can’t stay here, we’ll work at my place.”

“Come on in,” Dakota said.
