She shook her head. “That’s a lot of pressure.”

“Spending time with you made me realize that no matter what happens, I’ve got to slow down. Make some life changes. Kent’s right. I’m wound pretty tightly.”

She grew quiet, gazing into her tequila like a fortune-teller deciphering the remaining leaves in a teacup. “I’ll give your proposal serious thought,” she said, breaking the silence. “We have until Monday to contact Sheldon.”

Even though she hadn’t changed her mind, the tightness in his chest loosened. He’d done everything he could and now he’d let it go. “No matter what you decide, I’ll be okay.”

Her sweet smile slayed him. “I like your new attitude, Zander.”

Savannah’s phone vibrated on the rickety wooden table with an incoming call.

“Aren’t you going to answer that?”

She glanced over and sighed. “It’s my mother.”
