Dakota stroked Providence’s thigh. “Very,” he replied.

“When are you coming back to work?” Juanita asked.

“I’ll be in next week.”

“I look forward to it,” Juanita said and ended the call.

Dakota pulled into the garage. “I’ve got a surprise for you.”

They walked into the quiet house. Sammy was at her new preschool, and Miranda had flown to Michigan for her son’s wedding.

“We’re home alone,” Providence said. “That’s surprise enough for me.”

Dakota laughed.

“I was invited to Jagger and Taylor’s wedding. With everything going on, I wasn’t going, but we’ve gotta get away.”

“We?”

“Hell, yeah.” He kissed the tip of her nose. “Like Luther said, we make one impressive team. The assassin and his bad-ass queen.”

She smiled. “When’s the wedding?”

“This weekend in Malibu.”

“I’m there,” she replied. “I’m so there, I’m going upstairs to pack.”

“Pack, now? No way in hell. We’ve got something way more fun to do.”

She palmed his ass. “I couldn’t agree more. Lead the way.”

“After you, my love. I can’t pass up the view of your sexy wiggle.”

Providence couldn’t wait to get away. And what better place than beautiful, sunny Malibu to cleanse her soul and clear her mind from the whirlwind of everything that had transpired over the last few months.

She, Dakota, and Sammy boarded Sin’s private plane to the applause of those already seated. She laughed as Dakota took a bow and Sammy jumped up and down. On the way to her seat, she said hello to Sin and Evangeline, Maverick and Carly, and Crockett and Alexandra. Though she’d met Colton Mitus during the video chat in Dakota’s office, Dakota re-introduced her to him, and she met his wife, Brigit.

“This guy,” Dakota said, pointing to Colton, “is the reason I became a realtor.”

“I don’t remember that,” Colton replied.

“You said, ‘If we’re gonna buy these apartment buildings and duplexes, one of you needs to get his damn real estate license’.”

Brigit laughed. “That sounds like Colton. Always bossing everyone around.”

“Smartest business decision I ever made,” Dakota said.

After they took their seats, Dakota buckled Sammy in, then handed her Miss Lady. Once the plane was airborne, the guys got out of their seats and started talking with each other. Sammy fell asleep and Evangeline came over and sat beside Providence.

“I was with the FBI,” Evangeline whispered.

“Me, too,” Providence replied.

“I know,” Evangeline said.

“Should I assume Dakota and Sin have no secrets?”
