“This is going to soundinsane, but my brother is behind it all. He’s been poisoning my mom with liquid nicotine…and almost succeeded in killing her. If that’s not bad enough, I’m confident he killed Matt Hastings and is trying to frame you for his death.”
Silence.
More silence. He stared into her eyes, unsure if he could trust her.
“Dakota, say something. Aren’t you relieved to hear this? This ishuge.”
“Randy Maddox is your brother, Providence. Yourbrother.”
“Right.” Then, she furrowed her brows. “How did you know his name? I never told you his name.”
“Have you been scheming with him this entire time? You deceived me once. Are youstilldeceiving me?”
The light in her eyes flatlined. She crossed her arms, pursed her lips. “For weeks, he’s been slowly killing my mom with liquid nicotine. According to Beeker, you were days away from getting arrested for a crime you didn’t commit. I’ve fallen in love with an assassin, for fuck’s sake, and I’m a damn FBI agent. What the hell is wrong with you?”
She turned on her heels and marched out. He blew out a heated breath and went after her. She took the stairs two at a time, strode into the guest room, and shut the door.
Knock-knock.
She opened the door. “I’ll be outa here in ten.”
“I’m sorry. I overreacted.”
“My life has been turned upside down and you think I’m in cahoots with him? He’s a psychopath.”
“I don’t want Sammy to wake up. Please, I’m sorry. We need to talk. If, after we’ve discussed everything, you don’t want anything to do with me, I’ll let you go.”
Silence.
“No, that’s a fucking lie,” he continued. “I will fight for you for as long as it takes to win you back.”
She barreled into him, her kiss ferocious and brutal. He welcomed her intensity, and the ruthless way she raked her fingernails down his back. Her passion riled him. She broke away. Panting, she closed and locked the door. Then, she came at him again.
She was on fire, the fury in her embrace detonating his own desire. They stripped each other naked, and she jumped into his arms. When she rose up and sunk down on him, they masked their groans with another explosive kiss. Tongues crashed against each other, she ground against him, gliding fast on his shaft.
“I love you so fucking much,” he ground out.
“Shut up, Dakota. I am so, so pissed at you. So damn pissed.”
She was taking him for her own pleasure. The euphoria pounding through him had nothing to do with him and everything to do with her. All he cared about was her. Her beauty, her strength, her anger, but most of all, her happiness.
As she rode him, her heavily lidded eyes darkened, her soft moans morphed into low, guttural utterances. Her orgasm wracked her body and she convulsed hard against him as she groaned through the release. When she finished, she slowed the kiss, then ended it.
This woman was his partner, his soul mate, his forever.
“I fucking adore you,” he said.
“You didn’t come,” she whispered.
“You did, and that’s all I care about.”
“I might be furious with you, but I think we can do better.”
Five short minutes later, they werebothsated. And each had been forgiven.
After showering and changing, she told him how she found the liquid nicotine and masks in Randy’s bedroom, how she’d brought the ER doc into her confidence, and about her conversation with Beeker.
“Do your mom and dad know?” Dakota asked.
