Instead of deepening the kiss, he pulled away, leaving her aching for more. Drawing in a jagged breath, she opened her eyes to find him gazing into them, his hands still cupping her cheek.

“Your lips were made for kissing.” Releasing her face, he murmured, “I need to show you something.”

She sucked down a sharp breath. That tender kiss had been nothing like she’d anticipated. But the enemy had stepped into her web and she had no intention of releasing him anytime soon. “I’ll bet you do.” Brigit cleared the table. Walking away seemed ludicrous, but she was having too much fun toying with him.

Clasping her hand, he led her into the living room. Was he trying to throw her off balance with his charm? Well, it was working. Unlike the mansion, this furniture was simple, like a cozy country cabin. He clicked a remote and the gas fireplace roared with life.

“You brought me in here to show me your fireplace remote,” she said. “Golly day, youcanuse technology.”

Smirking, he shook his head. “You’re a handful. Just sit down. I want you to review a document.”

Her mouth dried up. Had he learned she was about to become the majority shareholder of the Francesco Company? Did he bring her here to interrogate her? Thumbing her bracelet, she blurted, “Isn’t it a little late to be working?”

“It’s not work, it’s personal.”

Ohmygod, he knows. “Let me grab my drink. Would you like yours?” Before he had a chance to answer, she was in the kitchen chugging her water. Not even slow, deep breaths could calm her palpitating heart. Unprepared for what to expect, she returned to the living room.

Looking relaxed and so damn sexy, he’d removed his shoes. She fought a smile. Somehow seeing his socked feet made him human, almost. “Getting comfy, are we?” She eased next to him on the espresso brown couch and braced for the worst.

In silence, he fiddled with his phone, then handed it to her. With a furrowed brow, she navigated around the document. It appeared to be his medical report dated that week. She breathed. “Was that the kiss of death?”

“Read it.”

Colton Mitus was a healthy, cootie-free thirty-three-year-old, weighing a little over two hundred pounds on a six foot two inch frame.GoodGod, he’s perfect.

“Is this also part of the interview process?” She handed him his phone and their fingers brushed, the sparks running rampant through her. Though hungry to pull him into an embrace and ravage him, she dropped her hands in her lap and threaded her fingers.

His chest rose and fell as he studied her face. “I wanted you to…never mind.” His cheeks turned light pink. “I’ll take you back to the main house.”

Colton Mitus with rosy cheeks was her green light. She imagined his flushed face while he thrust again and again, his hardness rooted deep inside her. “Okay. Thank you for the tiramisu and for the treat following. They were both yummy.”

She rose and sashayed toward the front door. Before she’d fully realized what had happened, he’d pulled her into his arms and kissed her. Long. Ardent. Strong.

Oh, God. Yes, yes, yes.Her panties dampened.

He slowed the kiss until it came to an end. They opened their eyes, but neither moved. Colton anchored one arm around her waist while the other caressed her back. Slow, hypnotic strokes, up and down. All she could hear was his breathing, hard and strong in her ears.

Trapped again. And she loved it.

With her palms pressed against his solid chest, she slid her hands up his broad, muscular shoulders. Her nipples hardened and her insides burned with unrelenting desire. On a muffled moan, she leaned up and kissed him. The sensation of his soft lips sent blood whooshing through her veins. And then he deepened the kiss. His tongue tangled with hers, back and forth, around and around. His erection jutted against her belly. Her primed body grew wet with need.

The kiss continued. Time became meaningless. Gasping for breath, she pulled away and stared into his eyes.

Then, he cradled her in his arms and carried her into the kitchen, set her down on the center island and pulled a remote from a drawer.

“I don’t know if I’m more aroused from that kiss or from the fact that you’ve been holding out on me,” she said. “You’ve used two pieces of electronics in the last two minutes.”

“What are you doing to me?” He grabbed her shoulders and kissed her again, his tongue pushing past her lips. Fast, tempestuous strokes that showed no mercy. She released a series of muffled, throaty whimpers.

He kissed her harder still, then abruptly stopped, his chest rising and falling as he dragged air into his lungs. “I showed you my medical report because I needed you to know I’m clean.” His eyes turned dark, and he clenched his teeth, his jaw muscles tightening. Power and lust poured from him. “Youwillwork for me, Brigit. And tonight, you’ll stay here with me.”

One guilt-free night with the enemy.

“I’m not working for you. But staying here?” A smile flitted across her face. “Now that has potential.”

A quick tap on the remote and jazz floated all around them. Lifting her as if she weighed no more than a feather, he carried her down the hallway to the master bedroom. The soft light of the table lamp illuminated the four-poster bed, its linens turned back and the pillows plumped.

“Hmm, that’s a shame,” she murmured.
