He opened the laptop, typed in a password, and opened database after database as if he, too, was law enforcement. After he shared the username and password, she committed them to memory.

“How is it possible that you have this much access?” She studied his face, but he gave nothing away.

“I just do.” He pulled out his cell phone and dialed. “It’s Sin. I need to fly to Miami tomorrow.” As he listened, he shifted to her. “That’ll work.” He hung up. “We leave at five tomorrow evening. I’ll pick you up at four.”

“Won’t that be cutting it close?”

“No. We’ll fly home the following day. Might stay two, if necessary,” he said as he scrolled through his phone. When he looked up, she was studying him. “What’s wrong?”

For starters, she was going to a kink club with her former andonlykink partner. And they were flying home thenextday, which meant they’d have to spend the night somewhere—together. Her insides tightened. Since she wasn’t about to confessthat, she said, “The video scandal takes a back seat to the death threat.”

“We’ll work them both,together.”

She nodded. “I like that.”

“You want to shake on it, partner?”

When she extended her hand, he slid his hand into hers, leaned close, and dropped a soft peck on her mouth. “All I want to do is kiss you.”

She released a soft whimper. “You are so damn honest,” she said, and kissed him back.

His sexy smile hit her like a bolt of lightning and she felt her panties go damp. This man could make her forget all the crap raining down on them with very little effort.

“You smile a lot.”

Leaning back, he said, “I’m not smiling.”

“You’re not?”

“Hell, no. I’m baring my teeth. If you get close, you can hear me growl.”

“Do you bite, too?”

He hitched a thick, brown eyebrow. “Only if provoked.”

She was a throbbing mess, her body primed for his. How the hell was she going to keep things professional when all she wanted to do was strip him bare and have sex with him on the conference room table?

She cleared her throat. “Okay, let’s get started. Show me that text again,” she said as she set down her mug.

“I got this text the night of the wedding.” He handed her his phone.

“You stole something of value from me,” she read out loud. “Now you’re a dead man.” Then, she read the second text. “I warned you. Payback time.”

“I’m going to rip his fucking heart out.” Each word Sin uttered was filled with a controlled anger.

“So, the arsonist knew we were at the club.”

“Looks that way. Jacoby will check surveillance. My gut tells me that first text was related to the Baltimore job.”

“The one that involved the baby?”

He nodded, once, but stayed silent.

“If you want my help, I need details.”

He hesitated for a few tense seconds. Then, the hard lines around his eyes softened and he relaxed into the chair. “The guy who showed up to take the baby shot Jacoby. His vest saved him. When he turned on me, I took him out.”

“Where’s the body?”
