Sin’s quiet strength filled her with peace. Squaring her shoulders, she addressed the journalists. “I’m grateful to Mr. Develin and his team for going the distance. I’m ready to put the fiasco behind me.”

“When do you get cleared?”

“That’s a question for the FBI,” Evangeline replied. “I have no further comment.”

“Thanks again for stopping by.” Sin took Evangeline’s arm and ushered her through the crowd. As soon as the elevator doors closed, he pinned her against the wall. Rather than ravage her, he cupped her chin and gave her a long, luxurious, panty-searing kiss. “Congratulations.”

She gazed up at him as the elevator doors slid open. After gesturing toward the doorway, he said, “It’s time to find Uncle Charlie.”

Side by side, they walked toward his corner office. “I’ll be right in,” she said before stopping in front of Sanchez’s office.

“Hey, c’mon in,” Sanchez said.

“I thought you were taking the day off.”

Sanchez chuckled. “All roads lead here. Plus, I love working. Crazy, huh?”

“I get that,” she said with a smile. “I wanted to thank you, again, for your help.”

Sanchez tossed her a nod. “My pleasure. I heard Sin made you a job offer. I hope you come on board.”

He did?She hesitated, unsure how to respond.

“Don’t sweat it,” Sanchez said. “You don’t have to rush to a decision. I’m here anytime if you want to talk.”

Evangeline moved on to Jacoby’s office and knocked on his open door.

“Congratulations. I heard we can add one more case to the win column.”

“Thank you for everything.”

Jacoby frowned. “That sounds like a goodbye.”

“I’m not going anywhere. In fact, I’m doubling down on whoever ran Sin off the road.”

“Good to know,” Jacoby replied. “I might need some help.”

“Just let me know,” she said. On her way to Sin’s office, she expressed her gratitude to Erica, as well.

Sin was on the phone, so she stopped in the doorway, but he waved her in. As she eased into a chair at the conference table, his growl caught her ear.

“Youfucked the spy.Yougave her the information. This is on you. Don’t threaten me, Birdie. I don’t scare easily.” Every word he uttered was filled with controlled anger. He hung up and flashed her a wicked sexy smile. “Birdie is in panic mode.”

“He ought to be.” Evangeline’s phone rang.

“Three guesses that’s your boss,” he said, as she lifted her phone from her bag.

“Sure is.” Evangeline hit the speaker button. “Hey, Jim.”

“Evangeline, on behalf of the agency, we’d like to extend our sincere apologies.”

She slid her gaze to Sin. “Thank you.”

“The initial investigation is still open, but they’re shifting their focus to the allegations made against Birdie. A second team has been tasked with clearing your name, so we can get you reinstated ASAP.”

“Good to know.” Evangeline kept her side of the conversation terse, on purpose.

“Anyway, I’ve gotten an informal nod for you to return to work on Monday.”
