I giggle and open up the camera on my phone, ready to film.
‘How many clients do you have?’ he asks, watching me.
‘Only a few who I clean for and organise their wardrobes, that sort of thing. And one whose dog I walk a few times per week.’
‘Dog?’
‘Yeah, he’s adorable,’ I gush. ‘He’s a dachshund.’
‘What’s his name?’
I flick my eyes up to Rafael’s, the back of my neck heating. ‘Um ... Freddie,’ I confess.
‘Freddie,’ he repeats slowly.
I turn my back on him, my cheeks burning as I busy myself with the box of clothes again, so I don’t have to look at him.
‘Aurora?’ he rasps, all deep and gravelly.
‘Mm-hm?’
‘Turn around.’
I look back at him and he raises both brows.Damn, why does he have to look so hot when I know he’s busted me?
My mouth dry, I squeak, ‘I needed to know if Dominic knew anything. I thought maybe I’d overhear something. It was a stupid idea. But it just felt like fate, or I don’t know, a sign, when I heard his wife was looking for a cleaner.’
‘It was a genius idea.’
His praise has my cheeks heating further. ‘How did you find out? Does Dominic know? Does Kate know?’ Panic claws at my throat. Kate’s a lovely woman. I’d hate her to find out I’m not who I said I was from someone else. I never thought it through, but I want to be the one to tell her who I really am.
‘Neither of them knows.’
‘Then how do you?’
‘A floral jacket.’
‘What?’
Rafael shakes his head. ‘Never mind.’
I sigh. ‘It was a long shot. But I needed to try. I’ll do anything to help my father.’
‘We’ll get him out.’
The confidence in Rafael’s voice is a lifeline I desperately cling on to. ‘Maybe we’ll find your money as well. I’m sorry you lost so much.’
He exhales. ‘So am I. But that’s not what matters.’
‘The truth is.’ I nod.
His eyes pinch before he turns away from me, running a hand around his jaw. ‘Yeah. You’ll get the truth, I promise. Just remember that whatever happens, I love you, okay? Never forget that.’
I walk over to him and rise on my tiptoes, pressing a kiss to his stubbled jaw. ‘I love you too.’
His eyes soften as he gazes down at me, making butterflies swarm in my stomach.
‘Are you ready to film me now?’ I beam at him and hand over my phone.
